Captain America: First Avenger

Complete miscast of main character. Why would they want to *cast the same actor again but for different superhero ? This is very weird, its like casting tobey maguire to play parker in spiderman and then play bruce banner in hulk movie.Johnny storm was very irritating so i completely didnt felt this trailer because i recognize the actor from fantastic 4, it feels fake, cant describe it.*

!!!!! SPOILERS !!!!!!!!!This movie felt very flat to me and the mate I saw it with. Seemed like too much action and not enough 'big' scenes/moments. Bland.- thought Evans was really good, best part of the movie was begining when he was a dweeb.- main actress really good- some stunts and vfx looked bad- why the hell did a bomber with 6 massive, er, bombs crash and not explode?- why did cap crash little bomb plan into big bomb plane and it didn't explode?- no training period for superhero, not necessarily complaining here, just different. All in all, just flat and uninspiring. Liked Iron Man 2 a lot more though I never got why that was a 'let down', different strokes.

Just saw this. Enjoy it .Yes there are a few things that could have been better. But overall I thought it was a good movie.

I thought it was pretty flat as well. Not bad, just rote and uninspired. It felt like a movie where every frame was storyboarded to the point that all the life and spontaneity was drained out of it. Everyone hit their marks but there were very few surprises in the performances and the storytelling. I also didn't find a lot of the period backdrops very believable. It was like gauzy Sky Captain CGI phoniness but not as deliberately and consistently stylized as in that film, so it sticks out more. Also felt Red Skull wasn't given enough dimension to make him an interesting villain for me. And one minor quibble, when Cap was moving stealthily through the Nazi camp with the GIANT, practically glowing in the dark stars and stripes shield strapped to his back, myself and several others in the theater laughed out loud at the ludicrousness of his 'camouflage'. Evans did a good job in the role though so hopefully his talents won't go to waste in The Avengers. Not a very remarkable film for me in any way but utterly harmless.

Saw it, fun movie. Nothing special, but I do wish that I thought to bring a good wine.

Disappointed. Worse of the Marvel movies of the past 2 years. My problem was not on the casting, I just didn't like the plot and the script. The main character is just too "perfect"- He doesn't grow or change at all, only phisically. No character development. THe same goes to everyone else. The only one that seems to at least show some emotional depth is Tommy Lee Jone's character, but then, its still the stereotypical Military " one liner machine" cliche. Agent Smith is also back with an accent. Seriously, he's a very good actor and he's being typecast too much. I'm tired of seeing him play the big eyes, teeth showing melodramatic vilain. Give him a proper role. The romance is not developed at all, everything is in a running pace. In fact, it feels like this film's only intention is to setup the Avenger's movie. They didn't commit to develop the characters in the movie, since they are all disposable.

SPOILER ALERT

They take this film seriously, but the whole plot is so ridiculously campy, with plot holes galore, the whole Hydra plans and plot, the Evil Genious Red Skull is an idiot that can invent cutting edge machinery but has idiotic war strategies... Well, I just don't want to go into details. I was really disappointed.

On a side note; why does Harry from AICN like every movie? He loved this. I remember him loving the Nightmare on Elm St remake. Horrible.

Some people think he gets paid...I don't. I think he has the quintessential fanboy mindset towards movies, regarding them more as fetish objects than stories. As long as a film strokes a particular fetish of his he's a happy boy.

I appreciate what he does and I like his site, but I don't read his reviews anymore. For the very reason you pointed out, they're pointless to me.

I found it very entertaining. The only thing that killed the experience for me a bit was the darkening of the entire picture for no noticeable 3D advantage.

I think Chris Evans was a great choice!
Can't wait for the Avengers flick! Woohoo!

@ Battutu: I think I am also guilty of having a quintessential fanboy mindset towards movies and would like to thank you guys for putting me onto AICN, now officially my favorite reviews destination! :)

I read the review of the other guys on AICN and usually find them good, it's only Harry I completely disagree with much of the time.
