Captain America: First Avenger

First trailer is out. I never thought they'd make this concept fly in this day and age but this looks like a lot of fun. Setting it in the 40's was a smart move. And I like what I'm seeing of Chris Evans. He's not falling back on his smart aleck persona. Note, the audio is funky on this, dialogue on the R channel only.

Enough w/these origin stories already!

Take a cue from the Watchmen opening credits; these characters back-stories can be told in a quick flashback.

Let's just jump right into the Avengers movie for gosh sake.

; )

I feel the same way. It's kinda like all these superhero films are starting to mush together. No one was a bigger comic geek than me when I was a kid/teenager, but I'm starting to skip all of these. The only one I'm looking forward to is Dark Knight Rises.

I love comics, unfortunately not one of the movies has made me feel the same way. Don't get me wrong some were good movies, just not comic movies, so I'm not saying this wont be fun and entertaining it's just not going to be what a true comic fan would want most likely. Plus it's the Marvel universe, come on it sucks...... jk I love all comics even the lame ones.... sorry I can't resist, Marvel is cool they have juggernaut, guardian and Apocalypse but that's about it.... I know there is more I just like DC more that is where my bias lies in this situation.

So, my question after seeing the trailer on the big screen last night is... with at least one very obvious Howlin' Commando in the film, will Sergeant Nicholas J. Fury make an appearance? And if so, will it be a new actor, a computer-youthanized Samuel L. Jackson, or a a full-on Samuel L. Mother Poo Poo-ing Jackson? :D

Well... we're 3 days away. I haven't been anticipating this as much as I was Super8... but I see they haven't let anybody review it yet. That's not usually a good sign... but all I can say is please be good please be good please be good. *crosses fingers*

God I hope they got it right.

A couple positive reviews have come out, I think the embargo is lifted tomorrow. Also, there's an Avengers trailer after the credits, there's a bootleg version floating around so stay for that.

After Spiderman 2, I take Ebert's reviews of superhero movies with a grain of salt. Honestly, I don't even read them before I go anymore, I wait until after I've seen it.

Ebert liked it. Compared it to Iron Man and said it was better than Thor. That's good enough for me. :)

If it falls between Iron Man and Thor, then that works for me.

Then again, I actually really enjoy fun retro-styled stuff like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, which I was reminded of a bit when I first saw the Captain America trailer.

This movie was good, not great. It was fun and adventurous, almost like Indiana Jones 4 (if it were a comic book) mixed with Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. But the story was also simplistic and unsurprising (like it was out of a comic book or something). The CGI was top notch, serving the action\story, and they did a great job of providing plenty of practical stunts so that you didn't feel overloaded with it. Chris Evans did a great job as the lead imo, and the supporting cast also did well. Also, I saw this in RealD, and I thought it looked great. Meaning, I had zero issues with the 3D use in this film (only 1 "gotcha" moment, and I thought it was actually cool). The 3D was not schlocky and really gave some scenes an immersive feel to them.

Anyway, a good summer action-adventure movie that everyone can enjoy. Just don't expect anything too out of the ordinary (unless having the "ordinary" done well is considered "out of the ordinary").

I haven't seen Thor, but my wager is that it probably does fall between those, but far from IRON MAN.

There was really just something missing from this movie. I can't put my finger on it, but it was very one note, cheesy and couldn't seem to break out of its own repetitiveness in certain points.

Not bad, just alright.

Pretty sweet in 3D. I thought this was a really good *prequel*. As a film it was good, but as a prequel it really shines as it brings together the Thor and Iron Man mythos along with some other Easter eggs.

And make sure to stick around after the credits for a healthy dose of Avengers goodness.

Well, I finally went to see a superhero action flick this summer and...color me disappointed. I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old (31) or maybe I really am just a 'hater', but I thought this was a big, clunky, disjointed mess of laser guns, laser tanks, and laser jets that bored me to tears and had no real moments of emotional connection between the actors. I've seen a handful of these actors do good work and actually react in other films, so I know it's not them at complete fault here, but there was no connection. The worst example of this was the final line before the credits. The dialogue was delivered somewhere between being dialed-in and ham-fisted through. I was really rooting for this film leading up to its release, too.

I guess if you don't mind shoddy acting and can't get enough 'hero's journey' stuff, you may like this. It hits pretty much every story beat that Iron Man did and it's highly predictable. I guess Marvel figures that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
