Can't mount P2 via firewire

Hi Guys.

Firstly, apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I PROMISE :cheesy: I did have a look around the forums first!

I can't seem to connect my HVX200's 2 16G P2 cards to my new iMac (nice shiny leopard 2.4G thang) with Firewire.
I had a look on Panasonic's site too and can't find any clues.

Here's what I can tell you.

  • I have connected the camera to another machine just fine, just to let you know that I'm comfortable with the actual process.

  • When I connect, my display goes through the normal '1394 Device host' - 'disconnect' - 'connect' messages, but when it connects, I get no volumes mounted on my desktop. Nothing shows up in the disk utility either.

  • I CAN connect via USB (but sooo slooowwwwww) which will have to make do for now.

Any ideas you lovely lot?

cheers

Yep.
Latest drivers installed this morning, but I tried them again for good measure. But still Nada.

Interestingly (?) - the camera now rests in the disconnect state when I try and hook it up.

In summary. Grrrrrr!

As an aside - the stuff I moved to my Mac via USB, won't import into FCP, saying the files may be incomplete or corrupt? ideas??

cheers for any further ideas

I'd try a different cable, just to say you tried it. Firewire can be a little finnicky, and RFI can cause problems.

Aye, good idea - though I don't have a spare lying around at home.
I'll have to head into work to pick up my other one.

Any other ideas in the meantime?

In case anyone from the future comes looking for a solution, I'll just mention that it turns out that my problem was resolved when trying a new cable. Weird, because the 'old' one works on my work machine, and I can pipe DV through it on my home machine. Strange old things aren't they.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys.

We've heard many reports about new cables fixing the problems, so we should all be a bit more proactive to tell people to try their cables...
