Can't delete without snap?

So I have snap and the other thing at the top of the timeline turned off and when I cut out an entire frame and delete it. It immediately snaps the fill in the missing frame. I want that frame blank. Sorry for the lamest question ever. I know there is some button or something.

are you setting in/out points and pressing delete? try backspace instead, that will remove the selected items without shifting everything down.

Use the other delete key.

This is a confusing point on the Mac because the backspace key is labeled delete. Hmmm 2 delete keys that behave differently in FCP, this is bad design. No need to apologize Will, it's Apples fault for a lame approach to deleting clips.

Milksac,
I have to disagree with you on that one. Just my opinion though. I like having both delete keys although they both don't say delete on them. One say DEL and the other says delete. The DEL key does a ripple delete, deleting your selected media and closing the gap by "rippling" the rest of the timeline to the left. The delete or backspace key deletes your selected media and that is all. If your on a laptop the hot key for ripple delete is shift/delete.

If only Apple would tell people about the two different keys. Ya know, like, write it down in some document describing how to operate FCP or something. :cheesy:

Thanks a lot you guys! That is a weirdass design. I have always used delete and just randomly it will do the ripple delete on certain projects. Is there another setting that alters any of that?

Or you could try calling Apple support. The phone the conversation might go like this:

editor: When I hit the delete key all my clips are moving, I don't want it to do that.

support: Are you sure your hitting the delete key?

editor: Yes! I'm hitting the delete key!

support: Calm down sir, I'm reading this directly from the manual and it says right here that you need to hit the delete key.

editor: OK I hit the delete key again and it's still moving all my clips.

support: Try re-installing the OS.

editor: Kill me now.
