Can't capture footage to FCP!!!

I have no idea what else to try here. I've tried the various "easy set ups" in Final cut 5.1. I can rewind, play, pause my camera through the capture window but nothing will appear on the screen. And when I try to capture now, I get this message..."No Data from Device...Capture was aborted due to lack of incoming data from device. Check your connections and that the deck is playing."

I recored the footage at 24, 1080 HDV...my fire wire is brand new and shouldnt be a problem.

Any ideas??

This is probably a bit of a stretch since you'll usually run into something way earlier if this is the case, but did you check that you have the HDV down converter turned off in the playback settings?

Also, make sure that your capture preset is for 23.98 frames per second. 24F in HDV has no pulldown. If you're trying to capture 29.97 FPS, that could be the reason why as there would be a bit less data coming through than what the computer is expecting.

Here is what I use in easy setup:
Format: (all formats) Rate: 23.98 fps
Use: HDV - 1080p24 Firewire Basic

I had problems in the past this works for me. I have a canon xh-a1.

The default in the A1 play menu is HD>SD .. check that it's turned off.

If you scored a cheap FW cable off the internet they're mostly bad ... go down to the shop and try a Sony branded one. HTH

Cheers.
