Hi there,

I am not sure if someone remembers on this camcorder, it is from the 90ies. It was one class beyond the canovision EX1 with changeable lenses.

With what type of camera class nowadays is this compareable, was it more a high end consumer cam or already in the more professional line ? If yes with what kind of camera is this comparable...

The lens was an 8-80mm 1.8, different AF´s types and auto Af tracking, push focus, manual and auto expposure modes, high speed shutter up to 1/10000, several audio connections, low LUX capability, and a lot more options also for art i.e. freeze, pop art, cross fade.....

Price was...probably around 3500 $ if Iam not wrong what I heard about....not sure what was possible on the market in this time for lower consumer prices...if there was even any or how did the market look like in the beginning/middle of the 90ies.

My Dad did film a lot, just hobby especially about their travels, already in the 80ies (with betacam system - seperated camera and recorder part) and had several cameras in more than ten years. He did ask me what camera nowadays would be compareable in high definition with the one he had, he didnt film anymore since the end of 90ies.

Maybe someone can help me here...would be nice

It looks like the father of the XL1, XL2, XL H1 (would be the modern equivalent) judging by the features...interchangeable lenses, good audio, form factor etc.
I could be way off...just going by features and the way it looks.

Thx for the hints, well the camera with interchangeable lenses was one class above, since with the A2Hi canovision the change of lenses was not possible. It could be correct that the EX1 ws the father of it, even the white color of the XL2 is same like the EX1. Holy cow the XLH1 is almost 10000€.
What camera type without changeable lenses could be that ? I will look aswell...but I have no clue about camcorder types.

What about the XF105 maybe or xm2 ? Ah well your hints did show me the direction....

I remember those, but never had one, had an equivalent sony. Single 1/2" ccd, good manual controls. Same quality as the L1 without removeable lens.

Yeah I guess you could say A1 vs H1 in modern terms. But don't expect anything close to that quality from a nearly 20 year old camera if it even works. More like GL1 vs XL1. as first generation Hi-8 was very close to DV, but it would degrade horribly if you tried to edit analogue.
