Canopus Edius now has cost effective HVX support

Now that's weird. It has to support 24p....
I'm curious as to what this all means...

in an way you guys are both right...edius (the basic version) the one everyone has if they have it does not support 24p or 24p(A) it does support 30p though...

" edius broadcast " what you saw in dvwest expo supports all existing progressive formats known to man...

if you own edius the upgrade to the " broadcast version " is $500 edius

edius hardware follows suit with the software and supports whatever the software supports

confused..then don't read below
there is also a new version of edius out in jp called edius 3.6 which has full support for the canon xlhd camd and the jvc 100 hdv cam even in frame mode...we (US users) were expecting 3.6 to come out last week, instead edius broadcast was announced, the 3.6 upgrade is suppose to be free to edius users

things to expect in edius 4 as per the X-owner of canopus Hiro in an interview a few months back

http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=1301&redirect=yes

- complete Keyframing
- multi cam tool (they had this working at nab 05 it works pretty much just like the fcp multi cam tool, its a compete swipe)
- AC3 surround-sound on the timeline
- rampable speed changes
- nested sequences

these features may all seem like old hat to vegas and fcp users, the fact of the matter is edius is not feature heavy, but its strenghts are in its simplicity and speed

Canopus seems like a good solution.. I really hate thinking about final cut so much lately, and it seems like Edius is a powerful little application.

It will be interesting to see what, if any changes will be made once Thomson/Grass Valley owns them...

Can you tell us why??

Jarred-Any chance you might be able to get edius to let you demo it and review it? They should as if you gave the go ahead I bet it would boost their sales a bit.

The demo doesnt have P2 support.. but i have installed it and it looks pretty good. Im just in the position of going through 6 years with vegas and jumping ship, that i dont want canopus to be the same down the road.. FCP and AVID pretty much own the roost now, so its a toss up between Avid and Edius for me.

It's a tough world out there: Apple makes more money with iPods and iTunes now than it does with G5's and FCP, Avid is (and has always been) a pain in the ass - like a bad habbit you always have to have more, and now with Grass Valley purchasing Canopus, like Sony purchasing Pinnacle it will be interesting to see the direction it will go. I suspect the way of their Infinity series.

I have been experimenting with PPro and Cineform, although I'm not a big fan of PPro I have been quite impressed with AspectHD and I like the idea of working in an IT environment with a codec that is independent of the NLE. It should allow me to work with a variety of applications on the same project without having to re-render everything everytime I use a different application (at least as far as Adobe products and WM9).

It's that Chines proverb (curse) "May you live in ineteresting times"

Chuck, AVID bought Pinnacle , not SONY.

With PPro being the only software for the professional AXIO systems I would also expect PPro to make a leap forward with the 2.0 release.

I did see an AXIO demo, it was very impressive. But the Matrox rep was playing dumb about P2 support. He kept saying that it was Native HDV ready. I said I don't care about HDV. I asked if they could read a native .mxf file and he said "I don't know" I am still waiting for an answer. I have visited the Matrox site and the Matrox forum on Creative Cow. I have owned DigiSuites for 7 years now.
Seeing what Apple is doing in the industry gives me a strong feeling that they "get it", while I don't get the same feeling with Adobe and Matrox.

nobody knows for sure what impact GV's buyout of Canopus will have, but comon sense dictates that GV saw 3 things in Canopus 1 edius 2 procoder 3 Canopus market position in Japan. Edius is not going anywhere, it will be the flagship NLE that drives all things GV

Unlike Avid buying Pinnicale...Canopus and GV have no direct competing products, Edius may even pick up support for cameras like Viper making it a bit more hollywood and with that more tools...no doubt inifinty support may be here as early as Nab

or maybe nothing changes for a few years until avid buys out GV and kills edius...
