Canopus Edius now has cost effective HVX support

Sweet. Maybe Canopus will be taken seriously now. It would be nice to finally get some 3rd party support. Anybody not familiar with Canopus... I can tell you that the Edius platform is rock solid.

Just wait til you see Edius 4. It's pretty friggin nice. I'm not a PC editor, but the Edius is a great NLE for the PC.

well they will be taken very seriously now that Grass Vally has bought canopus and i expect Grass valley to push edius into every News Room in France and the rest of Europe where GV is big...

Kron is using edius currently, and its proven itself to me time and time again, but all the real stuff comes out in Nab as edius is missing quite a bit when compared to fcp or avid express

What kind og support is there for 24P in Edius? It's been a few years since I have used a Canopus product simply because they never supported 24P (24PA to be specific) in any of there apps. Has this changed?

Well, if they don't offer 24P support, you can count me out.
I'll wait for someone to actually do it right.

Steve

I've e-mailed Canopus last week, here are some snippets:

- Does Edius NX fully support 24p from Panasonic DVX100A?
Today, this moment, no. But, support for this is coming very very soon. By the time you try the software and make an order it should already be available.
(I suppose he meant Edius Broadcast? But not on the NX system?)

- Is there a feature, or option for multicam editing?
There will be at the end of March when the next version of Edius comes out.
(Cool)

Wow, nice all in one package. Does anyone know if it'll support multicam editing?

EDIT: Flintstone, I was wondering the same thing. Gotta have multicam.

canopus is our real only hope here guys :)

Although Liquid does not capture 24p yet (it can edit it though) I think Liquid is also a big hope for PC users. Edius and Liquid-Pro come for 999 and can run DVCProHD on a machine you can build for 1500 or even less. No Apple or native-Avid product can get you there so affordable. Additionally I have component I/O for BetacamSP broadcast tapes on Liquid Pro which is such an important add-on if you want to serve old and new formats. Edius, FCP or Avid with that feature cost way more!

Edius is nice and I am sure Avid is now seriously thinking about opening Liquid up for 24p and DVCProHD (or Avid100 codec) support. Otherwise they shouldn´t have bothered to buy Pinnacle at all.

Anyway good news for the consumers, because the more competition we get the better the products will be!

I am so confused, and the all the cross-referencing at their website doesn't help!

So, if you don't have their hardware.... can Edius function software only with DVCProHD and provide realtime playback of at least a single stream?

Thanks,

Jim Arthurs

let me see if i can clear things up a bit...

edius broadcast is a software only nle...it works in rt...it supports 24pA

edius broadcast vs edius (nonbroadcast version)
...broadcast has the moduals for editing off p2 cards and the dvcpro codecs as well as sonys xcam codec

edius hardware, all it does is scale video (if you are scalling sd to hd on the same timeline), and perform codec duties, this relieves pressure off the system proc and speeds things up a bit, especially when working with hdv...

another reason to get the hardware, well it will give you hd out to a monitor, or allow you to capture uncompressed or save space using canopus HQHD 160bit codec...

i have been using edius on my hp3.02 laptop editing dvcpro 50 stuff for some time, in rt no hardware needed, i can ouput to a deck via firewire...

i don't know how much rt you will get with the dvcprohd codec but i get 3 streams with cc off my laptop editing dvcpro 50 stuff, and about 4-5 streams of dv ...

list of supported Progressive rates

HDV 1080/24p
HDV 720/24p
HDV 480/60p 16:9
HDV 576/50p 16:9
HDV 576/50p 4:3
DV NTSC/24p 4:3, 48k
DV NTSC/24p 16:9, 48k
DV NTSC/24pA 4:3, 48k
DV NTSC/24pA 16:9, 48k

Hardware needed?

Hardware needed?

I agree; if the Canopus requires hardware, we can't really consider it a competitive solution. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to use a laptop.

but why?

and also, why are some saying edius is the ONLY hope?

Now that's weird. It has to support 24p -- the demo they were showing at DV Expo was using the Charles Papert/Nate Weaver footage we shot with the HD100/mini35 combo in 24p...

... or did he mean that the NX hardware card doesn't support a 24p timeline?

I'm curious as to what this all means...
