Canon's Upcoming RF cinema camera rumored specs

These specs really puts the camera as a C100 replacement. The price is about what the C100 originally cost.

I think it is a C100 replacement. Lack of SDI knocks it down a tier. But 10-bit 4:2:2 4K120p is nothing to sneeze at. I see this as a B camera for c300mk3/c500mk2 or an A camera for an OMB or lower-budget entity

$6K+ and no SDI (if true) re-affirms that Canon still does not really understand the professional (motion) camera market.

I think they understand it too well. They want every penny they can wring from you and dont want to leave money on the table.

If you need SDI, they need $10k. If you dont have $10k, they'll happily sell you a $6k camera. If you want RAW on a budget, the C200 is still relevant.

They are masters of market segmentation. You kind of have to admire it

Nah. Don't buy it completely. C300/III and C500/II: you can't hook-up/use their VF and their touchscreen monitor at the same time. Add on module with additional XLR's: the XLR's face the operator.

I'll be giving this one a serious look when/if it's announced. For all its advantages, I never fell in love with my C200 the way I did with the original C100. That camera was a joy to shoot with and even though the footage was just a little too noisy, I think I liked the image out of it more too (there, I said it).

Yeah they do make some bonehead design moves. Starting with the clamshell monitor and audio controls on top that must be attached to get xlr inputs.

I feel like they design their cameras for cradle and freehand operators. That's the only situation where it makes sense to me to have audio controls on top. And I see a lot of people using them that way. And then there is no "operator" side for xlrs to come out on.

Definitely one thing that people like about the fs7/fx9 - the VF, XLR placement, shoulder-friendly and audio controls on operator side. All very convenient for ENG.

But the C200 has SDI out - I have no doubt they left it off the R300 on purpose so that people who need it must buy a C300III

Maybe kind of 1D X in an RF mount.

Of course, considering that R5 really doesn't have any overheating issues in 8K, a C-series type body is not required. Just slap on a mini-HDMI jack and off we go.

There is a separate rumor for the XC10/15's replacement so this one would be different...unless it's an interchangeable lens version which would be really awesome.

Yeah, I still reach for the C100 MKII over the C200 in many run-n-gun situations. The C200 is great, and the image is great, but I find it surprisingly heavy and unwieldy compared to the C100. Or maybe the C200 is fine, and the C100 is remarkably light and compact for what it does.

That's what the XC10/15 look like now (for the most part), so should be something similar...beefier, with more buttons.

Maybe...this new RF batch could be an exception as it's the first.

At this point, who's to say they didn't limit the EF cinema cameras so you'd eventually buy the RF ones. (Not saying they did.)

Nevertheless most people wouldn't even know the difference if they didn't have the particular experience with a whole bunch of them. And especially if they aren't pushing the system (the C300 III/ C500 II will have no trouble tracking a face when the camera's barely moving or the subject is barely moving).

Just saw this pop up on Canon Rumors:

Supposedly, the C70 will be announced on September 24.

I see NDs, 2x XLRs, waveform, and a vent for a cooling system (not to be taken for granted after the R5). I think it looks promising.

I really like the form factor. Need to hear specs and price.

Maybe it will put all my e-mount lens research to waste...

He says specs may be published this weekend. I'm not sure where this fits into the roadmap we heard earlier, but I don't expect it to be fully-specced regarding bit-depth, bitrate, frame rate, sensor size, or IBIS. Maybe it will hit some of those but not all

I really hope this isn't a fake picture. I think it might be what I've wanted since the beginning of the large sensor craze: a chunky 7D with XLRs, NDs, DPAF, long battery life, and (hopefully) a 10-bit codec.

If it's all of these things, then I'll take two.
