C100: Canon's response to GH5? (Rumor)

S16 sensor?

Really?

Lol.

I wouldn't LOL just yet:
Panasonic has proven with the GH5 S that
1. They can provide 4K image with adequate 10 bit color fidelity
2. They can squeeze 3000ISO out of the sensor
3.Optically it is totally feasible to approach FF angle and DOF equivalents (shot at the most common stops f2.8 and lower)
4.The yields for smaller sensors increase exponentially so they are way cheaper to produce (see BMPCC4K)
maybe not S16/1" per se but 4/3"- why not. The (downward) pricing pressure is ever increasing- this is a good solution...

Whatever,

S16 is ridiculously small in this day and age.

I think a lot of disdain for the XC cameras come from a frustration that for years Canon has avoided selling an inexpensive 4K shooting no-crop DSLR. The very thing people have wanted from Canon but they avoid like the plague.

So while the XC line may be perfectly fine cameras and aimed at a different shooter, it seems there are a lot of people who won't give them a chance because it's not what they've been waiting for.

Personally, I've warmed up to the idea of these cameras. I do a lot of run and gun work lately and the deeper DOF is helpful. I still won't buy one though. They aren't weather sealed. I've been shooting in the rain and mud a lot lately. I need something that can take it. I've already lost one Canon DSLR to rain.

My XC15 pretty much lives on a one handed gimbal. My only complaint is low light performance and I wish it had one more dial. If they could fix the lowlight performance with the option to change the lens, I would be happy. I certainly don't need a larger sensor.

A lot of cross currents going here. Many do not like Canon's habit of under speccing their cameras. The first XC camera had a f5.6 lens at its tele end!
A s16 sensor would not be a direct competitor to a GH5s. But, that does not mean the s16 sensor has no value in the marketplace. It all depends on what you plan on using the camera for and how the camera is designed. I think the 1" sensor size is very useful for everything outside of cinema production. But, Canon will probably find a way to under deliver. After a year or two of the GH5 in the wild, it is tough to consider any camera that is not 10bit going forward.

I can't speak for the 1DC, but the C-series cameras all have large vents for fans. So, definitely not.

1DC is definiely weather sealed with an appropriately weather sealed lens attached (some folks forget that detail). I’ve shot many times in heavy rain and snow with a 24-105 L (with filter) and no issues. Wouldn’t ever attempt that with a naked C200.

I’ve read many places that the C300 line is sealed, but have never seen official verification on that...

The C300 definitely has open ventilation for the fan on both sides, so I do not think it's weather sealed. I think maybe a mist or light rain would be fine but anything else would be a BIG risk.

What I’ve read is the internal electronics are shielded from the ventilation system, so that part of the camera can take in water/dust without getting anything else fried. Again, I haven’t seen this verified by Canon so don’t go pouring water in your C300 for kicks :)

The C300 has coverings for all of its ports. It is not as weather resistant as a 1DC, but it will survive a light rain if the lens is weather sealed and the grip is removed.
