Canon's 50mm 1.8 (nifty 50) and RedRock Follow Focus

Anyone using a combination of the two? The gear rings for the RedRock follow focus keeps slipping off the extremely small focus ring on the tip of this lens. Anyone find a way to keep the gears from slipping off?

****Update******

I compromised and added a ruberband on the focus ring. It's thin enough to fit onto nifty 50's focus ring, but still thick enough to add a great amount of traction for the follow focus gear. Here's a few pics.

Hope this helps those that will encounter the same problem!

Nice! I have this lens too and it's a pain to use with any FF system. BTW, I like how the camera is being propped up by a bottle of aspirin!

I guess it is a pain... :)

I've owned that lens before and it's a nice steal, but with a setup like that you might be better off spending the extra coin for a 1.4. I'd hate to have it keep slipping off in the middle of a production.

This is what I thought when I first read the topic. Spend a little more for the 1.4, get a better build quality, a little wider aperture, and a nicer focus ring.

But good work around!

another incident of mind-boggled-ness: expensive camera system + cheap lens.

I plan to get the Zeiss 1.4 when money permits. I own 2 other lenses so far - but due to money/time constraints, I needed a prime as soon as possible. I bought the canon 1.8 50mm off a buddy for $50, so I decided to not rent a lens for the gig I needed it for. But I hear you..

Should consider looking at some Olympus Zuiko primes, if you're looking for some stepping stone primes. I'm very chuffed with my little collection, they're very nice glass!

I never understood why people preferred nikon lenses for video. That is until i got my 7D and a 50mm canon 1.8. (Ive been a nikon user for a while D50 and D90).

As soon as i picked it up i knew.

The canon version feels like a toy from a quarter machine compared to the nikon. Its chintzy, cheap feeling, focus isnt as smooth, etc... Optically not sure if its really inferior or not, but build quality wise no comparison.

I miss my nikon nifty 50 :(
