[UPDATE: C100 & C500 ADDED]

Canon has announced two additional cameras to go alongside the C300- making a Cinema EOS plethora for such a new camera line. The EOS-1D C was at the C300 launch six months ago, however it become a reality today with a possible shipping sometime this year. The C500, the big brother, and of course a higher end version of the C300 adds several new features including dual 3G-SDI ports and plenty of needed production technology that was most likely a result of professional suggestions made to Canon. Both cameras can capture 4K video, and this makes 2012 the year 4K has stepped onto to the stage in the main stream production world.

NAB 2012
From Bloom: ""Gotta say. Blown away by 4k projection on 60 foot screen of canon 1d-c film shot by @hurlbutvisuals. Stunning"" Picture from screen of 1d-c film : http://propic.com/f23KW

Shane Hurlbut, ASC
"When you harness 4K into the small footprint of a 1D, give it the processing power to record to little CF cards with no external recording devices needed, then deliver an image that crushes the F65, Epic, Alexa in one fell swoop. Now that is where the WOW factor comes in. I can blind you with tech specs, wine and dine you with test footage, but this is not what I am about. If this unique device transports you and rivals 35mm film, then my job is done."

CANON EOS-1D C
The EOS-1D C is designed to perform wherever a scene may take it: hostile environments, very cramped spaces, mounted on the end of extended jib arms, or embedded on-set. For added versatility, record start/stop can be remotely controlled by Canon’s EOS Utility Software via a WFT unit.

Like other Cinema EOS products, the EOS-1D C exhibits incredible low-light performance, helping to ensure optimum image quality under conditions of extremely low scene illumination. When operating in DSLR mode the EOS-1D C offers top-of-the range focusing, exposure, and burst mode.
Post-Production

Built with onboard 4K recording at 24P or HD recording at a range of frame rates up to 60p; and Clean HD via HDMI, the EOS-1D C offers additional capabilities for film and TV production as well as specialty image acquisition applications.

The EOS-1D C records the 4K signal as a YUV 4:2:2 at 24p Motion JPEG format directly to onboard CF cards. It can also externally record an HD time-coded proxy via HDMI output for use in an offline NLE system. The 4K file can be loaded directly into color grading systems that support the Motion JPEG file format; and the alternative HD recordings (H.264) on the CF cards can also be taken directly into color grading systems.

Canon EOS C500
The EOS C500 offers a Super 35mm, 8.85-megapixel CMOS image sensor, our DIGIC DV III Image Processor and an expansive range of recording and output options specifically for 4K, 2K and HD image acquisition. It is available with either PL- or EF- mount options.

The EOS C500 offers two forms of 4K origination. You can dynamically select DCI (SMPTE 2048-1:2011 standard) or the alternative television- centric Quad-HD (SMPTE 2036-1:2009 and ITU-R BT.1769 standards) source image formats, and output a selection of 4K, 2K and HD digital sampling formats.

Canon collaborates with some of the most respected names in the industry to ensure seamless integration with third-party systems and accessories. Our dual 3G SDI terminals provide 4K/2K output to external digital recording units, portable and master monitors, and color grading systems – affording maximum flexibility to production and post-production teams.

For 4K and 2K recording, uncompressed output is delivered to external recording systems via built-in dual 3G SDI ports. Dual HD-SDI monitor outputs support external live monitoring. Simultaneously, HD content can be written to dual onboard CF cards to provide proxy video for offline NLE systems.

$15k for the DSLR.

Sorry, I'll pass. Now saving up for a 5DIII, at least I know not to worry about 4k for the next 5 yrs

Those poor guys who jumped on the 5DMarkIII for video...

MSRP on the EOS-1D C is $15,000 though...ouch! Although it's basically a 1D-X with more video features.

No official price on the C500. I now have a feeling it will be a lot more than the rumored $25K based on current trends.

Canon seems focused on premium pricing on all of their EOS Cinema products...too bad. Hopefully Sony and Panasonic can put more pricing pressure on them.

Well guys I guess the smartest thing to do this year is stick to the regular guys for a year (Mark II/III, 7D, FS-100, AF-100, GH2) This year is all about the bait and switch ("4K ready" FS700, AVC Ultra upgradeable cameras) and super high marked up cams *cough* canon *cough* At this point I wouldn't be suprised if the C500 is $100,000

Just thinking about it. How is a 4K DSLR the same price as a RED Scarlet-X canon mount package with only 24fps and no raw?

Gotta wait for the trickle down effect into a future T4i I guess.....

But these prices make the FS700 look like the bargain of the year.

$15,000 is way too much for what Canon are offering. I expect there will now be an exodus from former Canon DSLR users to the growing number of alternatives that are emerging, FS100/700 in particular. And we've yet to hear in detail what Panny might have up their sleeves...

Gotta wait for the trickle down effect into a future T4i I guess.....

lol Is this a joke? This Canon EOS Cinema division has no remorse for anyone looking to buy a T4i and it's looking like neither does the stills department. Expect a $1000 T4i probably still with a DIGIC IV processor at the rate they're going.

Holy smokes... who is driving Canon's price point? Obviously a very different personality than Sony's equivalent.

If it really is $15k, that's actually kind of a relief. Makes picking a camera much easier! Looks like it'll be the FS700 for me (though I doubt we'll be getting 4K off it for less than the cost of the C-DSLR).

A vistavision-sized sensor, 4K, 4:2:2 recording internally to CF cards (with 60fps 1080p available) is awfully appealing though.
