Where is a good place to buy canon xha1 batteries. Is there any aftermarket ones? should i stay away from after market batteries? Where can i find the longest lasting battery?

Longest lasting one would be the Impact BP970G, lasts about 7-8 hours each.

Or for a cheaper option, get the one from LA Color Shop, lasts only about 3 hours, but considerably cheaper. I have one and they ship pretty quickly.

Actually the rating are the same for the Canon brand and the third party brand. They are both 7.4v 7200mah. Canon quoted in the specifications is to turn on the camera in standby (not recording) and close the LCD. That's how they get 7 hrs. If you use it in recording mode and LCD screen on, you get about 3 to 4 hrs usage.
I myself am also using these batteries for my two XH-A1. They hold charges even after two years. I used to buy all Canon brand batteries, pay too much. =)
