Canon xh a1 tape head

I am using a canon xh a1 and I'm concerned about wearing down the tape heads on my camera when I log my video into the computer. I have a panasonic pvgs 150 which is a small SD camcorder. Is it possible that I can log my HD footage that I shoot with my xh a1 using my panasonic camcorder?

You'll need a Canon HDV camcorder to capture your XHA1 HDV footage that was shot in either 24f or 30f. You can use just about any HDV camcorder to capture your 60i footage. Your SD camera would only be able to capture footage shot in SD.

I would be more concerned with the tape mechanism than the heads. I would capture using HDV split, with scene detection enabled. So you just rewind the tape, then play it all the way through as it captures.

I am using HV30 as playback deck too. It can play back all 60i, 24F and 30F video from XH-A1.

Most vid camera manufacturers say change DV heads and tape guides at 1000hrs. but they'll run much longer than that. That's a lot of tapes, run the numbers based on how many hours you're in rec/play each week.

Most folk will upgrade their machine well before 1000hrs.

I use a pair of HV20s to capture A1 footage in HD. I use their remote controls when controlling the tapes, saves punching LCD buttons.

Cheers.
