Settings unless otherwise stated:

  • 1080p25 MXF 4:2:2 50Mbps ungraded
  • Shutter speed 1/50
  • Gamma Cine1
  • Color Matrix Wide DR
  • Noise Reduction OFF
  • ND Filter Automatic
  • Gain 0dB
  • Other settings default
Gamma is set to Cine1 as I am always trying to emulate the coveted film look. However, I used the Wide DR color matrix which is meant for Wide DR gamma mode. I should be using Cine1 or Cine2 color matrix but I somehow prefer the colors of Wide DR. Canon's Cine gamma modes seem a little muted in colors to me.

Thanks for the review and test footage.

I've been eyeballing the XF200/XF205 for a little while now, though I must admit that the limited control of the ND filters is putting me off. If understand you correctly, you say it is not possible to engage the ND filter at for example f2.8 to achieve correct exposure if you want a lower depth of field?

Have you tested the camera in low light situations? I've seen some comments from people that are really unsatisfied with the low light capabilities of this camera.

Yes. ND filter on/off in menu only determines if ND filter will kick in from above F4.0. So you can't force ND filter to kick in at F2.8.

I have tested the camera extensively in low light situations. The camera is already a bit noisy in full daylight, so low light is not a strong feature of this camera. But then it isn't exactly worse than other 1/3" sensors. You should simply use a large sensor camera for low light jobs.
