Hi,
I'm looking into getting an Atomos recorder, but are stuck with which to get. The price point for the Ninja blade is excellent and will have the HDR feature soon, and the newer 'Flame's' are pretty pricey but for now, future proof for when I move onto 4k but will still have the fantastic screen size and brightness.
The main thing that also draws me to getting one is the ability to have a backup. When shooting in SD I can have the cheaper SD memory cards recording the same time as the Atomos Ninja Blade so have a backup incase the Atomos for some reason fails, But I assume when recording 4k with the Flame you have to have the camera set to 4k, so wouldn't be able to backup to the cheaper SD cards, this is a major drawback for me as the price of CFAST cards is too much, and when you've got two cameras to buy for it adds up fast..
Has anyone had any experience with either of these recorders? Can you tell me if i'm correct in thinking it will only output 4k when you have the 4k record mode set. I currently output my final videos in 1080 anyway, the camera does an excellent job with HD but as I said, the screen size, brightness and extra features are a big plus.
