Canon XC10 4K video and stills camcorder

If it's really 12 stops, that's not bad!

coming from my C100 which is supposed to be 12 stops, the XC10 blows highlights in almost all of the videos i seen so far. it doesnt seem on par with the C100 to me. if fact it reminds me closer to my EX1 although not quite as bad.

anxious to see more videos from more shooters using it in real world situations.

I really like what I'm seeing with the XC-10.....even though it is a smaller chip (35mm vs 1"), you still have good DOF and in the interview on the balcony, the shot shows some good range. I think there is going to be a lot of uses for this camera....which arrives tomorrow!

I love the image and design of the body and UI. The resolution is very high at 4K yet not sharpened, the DR and colour science in C-Log are lovely, no artefacts like aliasing or moire or macroblocking, such a robust codec, even rolling shutter artefacts seem neglegible, lowlight looks great, sensor size is a great balance between getting the shot & blowing the background, I just which I could afford paying that on a small B camera no matter how lovely it is, especially since one can get a C100 for not much more (different cameras though but still). Lower the price please Canon. I want 4K C-Log 4:2:2 images to internal card in this small form factor!

Areas to improve in XC10 MKII body design:

-Fully articulating screen
-Separate Electronic VF (if the loup turns to be as flimsy as people say)
-An XLR audio module that can be added on top (C100/A7s approach)
-Detacheable side hand grip, and 360° rotation

Since Canon does listen to their C line customer requests and implement each single one (C100 MKII & C300 MKII - their stills devision should take note!) I have high hopes for this little C-line in the future once people start using them.

I hope I don't get arrested for liking a Canon image or for the crime of positivity towards a Canon product.

Most of the demo videos I've seen just look a stop over exposed to me. This is the replacement class for something like my old GL2. Underexposing 1 or 1-1/2 stops and correcting in post makes a huge difference in how highlights look. I've shot my GL2 that way for years in full manual mode. I'm sure the XC-10 has significantly better DR and usable latitude than my GL-2. Is the HDMI live output 4:2:2? Not sure log is all that useful with 8 bit 4:2:0 AVC. No data room for grading.

the lack of DR kills this camera for me. i don't even need to go into the slow lens, goofy eyepiece design plus overall mediocre design etc.

I expect the eyepiece to be modified on almost all camera to be comfortable. I've seen multiple solution for adding a bigger eyeshade and a soft eyecup to the A7s.

Hands on shooting preview. Basically great image until ISO 4000 when NR muddies image. No images in review. Sames to come soon. Suggests shooting in standard profile with sharpness decr asked is ,c Log alternative

Good review, but no samples. I really wonder if the camera reviewed was a pre-production model or not, the quality and degree of NR is something I expect Canon to fine-tune in the firmware.

He states that he bought this camera, so it's very unlikely that it's a pre-production model.

At this price, the substandard lens is a deal killer for me. Everything else so good. But....glass first.

It seems like a neither-fish-nor-fowl camera. And, price wise, as mentioned above, one can get more with G7 or GH4 or a slew of smaller sensor 4K cameras.
