Canon XC10 4K video and stills camcorder

I read through the manual the other day and I am interested. It has a little of everything.

I wish someone who has handled a production version will tell us if the the snap on viewfinder is any better than the poorly reviewed preproduction models.

I have a real estate client that builds skyscrapers and always wants me to film and produce stills of their properties from the air. I shoot 4K video and produce both from the footage and they are happy as a clam. I go up twice a month for them. Obviously these are compressed due to web, but with the originals I produce clean crisp 30in. prints for them all the time.

Great shots.

Are these from your GH4 ? ( video frames or still photos ? )

This camera does have a nice 'filmic' quality to it. The light by cell phone video above is pretty clean given how slow the lens is. Looks more appealing than the JVC 300 footage. Can't wait to see the DVX-200. Panasonic better nail some things given the DVX-200's price is close to double compared to this Canon.

And the XC10 is 4:2:2 and the DVX200 is rumored to be only 4:2:0

rolling shutter present but more controlled than on most cameras. This is 4k from a moving car. Presumably HD will have less. Note difference in RS in verticals further from car. The verticals next to a moving car are a torture test

EVS had a Canon event recently showcasing the XC10, C300ii and the C100ii (thanks, guys!). I was really excited about the XC10 until I picked it up and tried it. The hand grip was so close to the body it was hard to hold. The eyepiece was hard plastic and very uncomfortable to look through. By contrast, the viewfinder on the C100ii was heaven, and the handgrip was far enough from the body to get a solid, comfortable grip.

If there was a nicer viewfinder, a couple more buttons and the grip were just a bit farther from the body, I'd jump all over the XC10. Canon really needs to stop using trivial features like this to try and upsell you.

the lack of DR kills this camera for me. i don't even need to go into the slow lens, goofy eyepiece design plus overall mediocre design etc.
