Has anyone tried this one out?

Would it be possible to shoot video with that device and not be restricted by the 4GB recording limit? Or do you know of any other way to record more than 12min clips? is the file-size of 720p smaller?

Thanks!

The answer to all of your questions is no.

The device doesn't send video over wifi when hit the record button. It actually merely sends the files that are already on the memory card.

720p uses the exact same bit rate as 1080p.

The recording limit is not really due to the FAT32 format of the card. It's because of a European tax law that Canon wanted to evade. The Panasonic GH1 records to SD cards, which also use FAT32, but non-European versions of the camera can span clips across multiple 4 GB files. Unlike Panasonic, Canon doesn't make a special European version of its camera.

The only way to work around the recording limit is to capture the HDMI-out stream. This requires rather expensive hardware such as the nanoFlash or a Blackmagic card.

Does anyone know how well the Live View performs (quality, lag, etc?) sending the picture to a mobile device like an iphone?

I'm hoping to use this as a wireless director's monitor. Does the device also disable your HDMI port?

What about using it to perform remote focusing via live view software on a laptop? lag issue?
I don't know if it provides this sort of functionality. My gut reaction would say no. After all, it was designed only for transferring files.

Also, consider this: USB 2.0 has a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 480 Mbps. 802.11g wifi has a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 54 Mbps. Users have found that long USB cable runs result in choppy performance in remote live view. It makes me think that remote live view over wifi is just a bad idea.
