Canon Vixia HF M400 and stuff...

I am considering selling my GH1 gear and getting the HF-M400. I want something simple, something I can use to learn video making with manual control and can give me help via auto modes when I need it. I'm not a big fan of shallow depth of field and have other still cameras. Post processing will be done using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Production Suite. My primary usage will be personal and family videos, and I've been asked to create some training videos at work. I'm a novice making video, but have the most knowledge of the material being presented. At work I have access to computers with power and am wondering if my laptop at home can be used to work on post production as well. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61p, 80 GB Hard Drive, Intel duo core CPU,
T7500 at 2.20Ghz, 32 bit OS, 2 GB Ram, Nvidia Quadro FX 570M.
I would like to hear from folks who have the HF M400, or any of it's brothers (M40, M41) to see how they ike the camera, and to pick up any tips on maximizing it's potential.
Thanks for any advice or input...
John
