T2i Canon t2i Battery?

I got a T2i on Ebay and I have been meaning to ask this question for a long time: Will a higher mah battery work in the t2i or will it fry it? The original battery is7.2v at 1120 mah but the other battery is at 7.4v 1200 maH. Are they interchangebale?

mah shouldn't effect anything, as that is simply a rating of how long the battery can produce that output for. In other words, it will just last for longer (kind of like having a larger gas tank on your car).

However, what concerns me is the voltage. You really can't play with voltage, and although most electronic devices have an operable range of safe values, I'd be nervous to put something in that was a bit higher voltage than the stock battery. Too much voltage can fry circuits that weren't designed to handle it.

well chargers sometimes say 8.4v while battery is 7.2/7.4 . don't worry about it . i'm pretty sure that voltage on batteries represents their avarage voltage, not saying anything about min/max

As long as the voltage is correct, the mAh doesn't particularly matter. Allegedly, higher mAh will get you longer life between charges. I haven't really seen any evidence of this yet. If you're talking about the knock-off batteries that are from china, usually found on ebay or amazon, you should be fine. I got a battery grip and a bunch of knock off batteries when I first bought the t2i and haven't looked back.

The grip helps to avoid overheating, doubles the time between battery changes, makes the camera larger and feel better in the hands, and it provides a bit of protection in case a cheap-o battery winds up leaking or something else that could go wrong.
