Canon R5 MKII Announced

"The 4K DCI is oversampled from 8.2K, while the UHD is oversampled from 7.7K. Recording time when shooting 4K DCI or UHD at 120fps is limited to 5 minutes. When shooting 23.98p, 24p, 25p, or 29.98p the recoding limit is 29min 59sec." - Newsshooter
I originally thought that was odd as well but I think Newsshooter accidentally had some incorrect info on the record time limits.

According to this spec sheet from Canon, the maximum shooting time per recording is 6 hours (when recording at 60 fps or lower) and 2 hours (when recording at 100 fps or higher):

What Dustin said the pdf he posted is the official spec sheet you should refer to. Sounds like Newsshooter may have copied their previous article on the R5 and forgot to update that section.

Im genuinely baffled that no one is interested in how to shoot with these cameras. Is it not relevant to other productions?

In five mins I was on 70-200 - this is better at 50p (nd needed)
then a wide (18-35) with audio that I want with 25p (nd needed)
then pop into the shed and its five stops lighter. need to bin the ND and stick with the wide

FPS needs to be on a wheel. Maybe untick the unused frame rates.
ND needs to be on button/.wheel. It is on the C200
Crop mode.. should be an assigned button.
Focus check while rolling should be functioning.

That said.. I love my r6 and in every way avoid shooting on my bulky C200.

But on fast moving shoots I have to use the beast. (500g less beastly than the C400 and has an EVF!)
On my Sony mirrorless you can program all those settings to buttons/wheels I think. Except ND which it doesn't have

You have a lot of Canon shooting experience under your belt, Eric. Have you noticed any changes in the look of the the new (post 2020) cinema cameras, i.e. C400, R5C and now the R5II (if you've had a chance to view footage)? I mean, in terms of highlight roll-off, sharpness and color....
I mostly use my R5 for stills but the one time I did shoot and edit footage from it which I mixed with my Amira, it did have a very sharp (4K) and clean look which I rather liked, while the Amira was noisier.

I don't notice that much difference in image quality from the C300 Mark II to Mark III (or C70). I shoot mulitcam with the C70, C300 Mark II, and C200 and they match petty well. C200 (shooting 8 bit) has sometimes been a bit off colorwise I feel compared to the others, which color grading can fix.

Haven't done much in terms of direct comparisons. Haven't seen enough R5 II or C400 footage to have much opinion on the differences; I'd hope/expect them both to be a bit sharper than the 4K cameras. I'll be needing a second still camera before long, so will probably get an R5 II, though the R5C still seems to be a contender as well in terms of overheating. I'd like to get four Canon C400s depending on how business goes over time.

I just bought eight Sony ZV-E10s (8 bit), hoping they'll match up with my seven Sony FX30s. If not, maybe will need to return them and get the more expensive ZV-E10 II which has the same sensor and codecs (10 bit) as the FX30s.

Thanks. It looks to me as if Canon is trying to emulate Sony with their new cams (C400, R5II and even R5C) in terms of producing a sharper, more digital look compared to their older cinema cameras. Maybe it's just some of the grades I've seen?... What do you use your FX30s for primarily? I just picked one up with the Sigma 18-50 2.8 for some run and gun work....

I kind of hope so. You can't make a dull camera sharper but you can make a sharp camera duller. I'm often looking at my camera footage and wishing it was sharper across most of my cameras, so am interested to see how the C400 measures up.

I'm using the FX30s and ZV-E10s for studio multi-cam live switching productions with dedicated cameras set to each studio room. I've 95% quit freelance DPing and am a producer/director/studio owner now. One nice thing about owning and spending money on a studio compared to just gear as far as career investments is instead depreciating it appreciates in value. I'm glad I went in this direction instead of buying an Alexa 35.

My canon.(s) Im not really sure

I dont think I can go 25-.50p in the C200 or the r6 via one touch.

Crop mode.. I dont think the C200 has it. Or it is one touch in the R6

ND. as expected

Af mode/lock .. im reseaching.

R6 video I have in 'servo' and have the 'set button' to lock focus position
R6 stills I cont know who to pedal servo/single

C200 video. focus..

Well thats just whack because you assign a button. - say 9 for fec detect.. but what happens if you hit 9 again.. it goes from face detect to.. face detect .. or does it.

Id assign a button between two options..

like crop or not crop. I dont want to use two buttons for that!

Nice to see your career path going in a good direction. It certainly seems from your history on here that you’ve earned it…
