Canon R10, R8, R7 HDMI out, internal record, and LCD on

Does anyone know if the Canon R10, R8, R7 can do HDMI out, internal record, and LCD on at the same time? The manual seems to indicate you cannot, but I found a post on EOSHD where a user indicated they could do it all at once.

I don't know for sure since I don't own the camera but often the hdmi output will restricted to lower bit depth and resolution (1080 30/24p 8bit) but not 4k or 60p or 10bit. What you have shown is for live streaming so if it was limited to 8bit HD that's sufficient.

All of these cameras can do 4K 10 bit 4:2:2 output over HDMI which I need. I'm trying to find out if there is a way they can do that while also recording internally and having the camera LCD working too.

If not, the Fujifilm X-20S is another option which I'm wondering if it can do all of that.

Probably not for all of them but at least no for R7 without the camera's info:

Also, if you end up going for one of them anyway, double-check the HDMI output of 10-bit 4:2:2 is where you'd like it to be (meaning...it might be 10-bit 4:2:2 in only C-Log which would probably be fine, but some modes could be 10-bit 4:2:0, or even 8-bit, etc. etc).

You were asking how it's possible they are doing it in the picture and I just told you how. Many cameras have restrictions output hdmi while recording internally. Sometimes the only way is to drop the resolution or bit depth. Every camera has their own matrix of restrictions. For example Sony A74 has some sort of restriction which I have forgotten the details but I think the lcd would turn black when sending video out to the HDMI. I found a work around, turning off the data overlay. I think it takes more processing power to record internally while simultaneously sending out an external signal. So high bitrate/resolution/color depth/frame rate are all a contributing factor.

R6. afiak the screen goes black when you plug in an hdmi. And you cant tap to focus so its a major bummer

to me the canon mirrorless are nice boxes for solo use but as soon as you want broader functionality the c200 is the affordable option

YouTube comment on that video says...

"You can record internally and externally at the same time in the default HDMI display mode. You just need to hit the "info" button until the HDMI feed is clean - there is a mode that won't display anything (autofocus points, record lights, etc) The downside is that you lose all on-screen displays but technically you can do it."

I don't have confirmation that the default HDMI display mode still outputs 4K 10 bit 4:2:2.

Yeah, it's also unclear to me if the camera can record 10 bit 4:2:2 if not shooting log. I'm recording a live edit to a 4K Atem so would need a rec 709 profile and preferably 10 bit 4:2:2.

I did see that comment but then someone replied to it and challenged it, and then someone else said both...I really don't know.

Sold my R10 a few weeks ago or would have already tested it.

I have a C200. It can't do 4K over SDI (of course these mirrorless cameras don't even have SDI) and it's limited to 8 bit output for both HDMI and SDI. Also costs around twice as much money as one of these mirrorless.

Maybe I'll look more into the Fujifilm X-20S.

What mission are you trying to acheive.

I have C200, R6 and I get the R6 is more attractive to take to the park and film ducks.

But as soon as one needs a feed going somewhere or whatever im all C200?

I certainly would not be getting a non brand camera.

Somone sent me a pic of a sony XLR box (they wanted to rent if I had it) £500! ! ! for a break off box. Spend that £500 and a few NDs and a matte box and the the C200 fast becomes cheaper than a mirrorless.

I'm trying to get five dedicated studio cameras that can preferably fit on DJI RS2s as remote heads sending a 4K 10 bit 4:2:2 signal to a Blackmagic Studio 4K Atem for live editing recording to an Atomos Ninja V+. Ideally, I can buy five cameras that cost around $10,000 after getting basic necessities (media and batteries). I need at least two hours of internal record time as backup recording, want an LCD image on the camera, and the HDMI (or SDI) output. Also want either EF mount or an EF mount adapter (so Nikon doesn't work since it can't adapt to EF).

The Fujifilm is listed as output up to 6.2K RAW. I did find in the manual for the Fuji that the RAW can be turned off. It's not clear if the output just mirrors whatever recording setting it is recording (so 4K or 6.2K) or is always 6.2K. I would think the former, but need to verify, as well as verify that it can do that while also retaining the LCD and internal recording, which I have yet to find anything indicating it can't.

I'm surprised to find that my C300 Mark IIs cannot do 4K over HDMI, and can only send out 4K RAW over SDI, which my Atem 4K is not recognizing the RAW signal. Perhaps a 12G decimator could convert the C300 signal to something the ATEM would recognize, but those cost $500 for each camera.

Well this is a fairly niche setup.

You might be correct that panicsonic or some other off brand offers you what you need as the latest gen have functional autofocus do they not and large HDMI

I think you might be onto something.

THere is alos the Bagh panicsonic and Sony and Birdfood PTX cams.

I think the sony ptz with the fx6 workings would be great but over budget.

Ive playedwtih sony ptz at a show and it was good.

So - probably a your camera and ronin .. or maybe ptz.

I wonder if a couple of the cams can be static lock offs, GH4/5 would present a saving.

Ive minor crossings with 'driving plates' and 8 gh5 work well togather.

Zcam do some synch but dont have good AF?

a final thought.. my r6 workes work well with usbC into my ipad to give good liveview.
I dont know about the res.. but maybe usbc into a computer could work
what is OBS? could that replace the mixer?

The Panasonic S5ii with sigma adaptor I think will do what you’re after, AF works well with EF lenses and that adaptor, no 30 minute internal recording limit, full size HDMI is better than horrible micro hdmi on Canon mirror less and most Fuji cameras. Canon R6 has all kinds of strangeness where you can’t use external monitor and touchscreen at same time

Sony FX30? Costs $1798 each and seems to cover all your requirements. Full-size HDMI, 4K 10 bit 4:2:2 output up to 60 fps in any profile, can use EF lenses with an adapter, and from my quick Google search, does not seem to have an internal recording limit. But please confirm about not having the internal recording limit, as I did a quick cursory search.

yes, I was going to say that I think Sony mirrorless cameras can do it. A7iv could be another option if you want full-frame

GH4 or GH5 would be difficult to get wide angle with my Super35 lenses. Panasonic S5 I had looked at but it had a 30 minute record limit in 10 bit. Panasonic S5II I hadn't looked at as it was a bit more pricey, but I'd lean away from full frame because some of my lenses are Super35 and I don't necessarily want shallower depth of field during a live edit.

Sony FX30 I hadn't looked at before and after looking at it I think it's actually the ticket. Compared to the Fujifilm, it has tally lights, wireless camera control (not sure if Fuji has this), full size HDMI, considered more professional due to being a Sony FX camera, and fits in the FX lineup if I get a Sony FX3, FX6, or FX9. Also, the Fuji has a $200 fan add-on which makes me concerned it may need that to record for long periods, which would bring the price closer to the FX30, along with potential fan noise on set (not sure how loud those are), and I haven't heard of the FX30 having overheating issues. FX30 will put me a bit over budget, but manageable.
