Canon R mount - all terrible ??

AN apparent update on the R6. (aparent .. get beck to me if this is wrong!)

WHile I think andything but manual is for losers I realised that C1 C2 C2 might make up for some missing dials. Rof example there is no framerate dial as you would expect (it is a basi function)

Anyway it seems that you cannot use C123 to avoid the menu dig involved in a frame rate change.

So I wnet out with the R6 today.

If you have been from Japan I would have sliced you with my samuri sword. The foooking camera nearly got smashed into 1000 pieces in my fury.

And thats me with my kind head on.

Multiple times I was not able to shoot. Manual focus is not part of the focus menu but a seperate thing. The ability to select manual somehow dropped from the menu. WTF was that.

Also it somehow got stuck in 'auto mode some how.

Additionally in stills mode somehow it now takes a photo when you tap the screen, Ensuring the photo is taken before the image is focussed or composed.

My 'reel of stills looks like it was take by a dog or the camera was left inside the tumble drier.

Clearly I need a much better handle on the menues to know what to do if I hit the magic 'poo poo your day up' button.

2/3 into my walk I was able to hand hold some stock footage that will be better than sending out a full crew. The possibilities are horifying if you spent your life chugging around 2/3 and a Video 18. Me and this little box are better.

Mixed enough journey?

Checking the camera out in the calm of a desk

AF/MF switch moves from menu>AF>1 to menu>AF>2 depending on the focus mode you are in. INSANE

AF/MF doesnt seem to be writable to 'my menu' where Im trying to put things I wont be able to find.

There is a tiny icon you can knock to make stills fire on a screen tap. Disablement in the menu doens seem possible but at least im now aware.

My walk is great to show me how much I need to pracite before taking it on a job.

Which lens was this with?

Ken Rockwell mentions this as a con in his review of the RF 24–105 mm f/4.0–7.1:

Trick manual-focus "Center Macro" mode may be fun, but if you use it you have to remember to reset the manual-focus distance back to normal before the camera allows you to switch back to autofocus! Worse, at least as of firmware 1.4.0 in my EOS RP it hides the MENU > CAMERA page 7 > Focus Mode option entirely!!!

That sounds insane too, but it’s Canon so they get a pass.

Yes this is with the 24-105 F7.1 RF kit lens, which is both horrid and amazing at the same time!
I find it mostly amazing. An example of the new possibilities that mirrorless allows. (Look at the size of that close rear element!)

I’d take this STM lens over the RF 24–105 mm f/4 L, especially at the asking prices. The constant f/4 lens feels amazingly cheap for its price: all rattly plastic and sprue marks and loose fits. Also clumsily large on these little mirrorless cameras.

I bought a 24-70 L to give me a basic 'one lens' full frame option on my R6. It was then very cheap to 'bundle' this lens ($250?)

It clear that I will be using that 24-70 on the C200 or only on rare occasions on this camera or selling it.

While 7.1 seems a bit of a joke it is clear that this lens is highly practical for a b cam in 90% of situations.

Here is 7.1 and the dof is not too deep

So Im going to the G7 to hang with the public. It could be a load of walking/cycling so mass is all.

Here is my kit. R6 24-105 70-200/f4 rode go mic cage and a couple of ND filters.

It wont be se_xy to use but doing 4k 10bit Log functional AF stabilised with range from 24FF through to 200FF is pretty amazing however horrid it is to find the buttons..

And that seriously is my tripod!
