Canon R mount - all terrible ??

So Im doing this transfer from nikon to canon. Sold my Z6 and bought a canon RP.

Now im thinking the RP is terrible for video. Not bad.. but terrible. So I punched myself and said its a $1k camera.. you need to fork out properly to get into the game.

BUt what to get.. ? all RP vs R says not much in it. R5 and R6 are beaten down with this heat thing .. leaving nothing.

Conclusion stick with the RP until canon launch something not awful ??

Why do I 'like' canon R mount. EVF to see in the sun. Space for behind the lens ND flippy screen to vlog. These things make the R canons 'great for video. If they didnt overheat or record porridge.

BTW I really like the RP form and functions and still photos but its recording porridge which isnt really acceptable.. feels like the 7di and 5dmkii which I desposed of last century.

None of the idiot YT reviers mention that this camera records porridge.

C200 (8bit 1080) vs RP (8bit 1080) (also known as 6bit 480i)

Or maybe the RP is OK (and highly enjoyable) for filming my cat and I should chill

Yeah, that is Canon's perfect attention to their meticulous details.

If overheating didn't exist, the R5 and R6 are the best 4K cameras they ever made in that price range.

Everything below is pixel-binned and line-skipped in HD (like the RP...and 8-bit doesn't even matter in this case because they are just crushing the processing altogether), or has a crop in 4K with none of the aforementioned, and it's all limited to 30p.

If overheating is not for you, the only RF cameras to consider are the C70, C300 Mark III and C500 Mark II.

R,RP,R5,R6...all pretty much unusable in HD. 4K should be much better in the RP though (...with the crop).

Or is the overheating hyped? Really I would rarely roll longer than a minute and over 15 would be gimbal vehicle only.

Can you shoot with an external recorder? The R5 might be good enough then.

Also, people seem to be recording 4K 25p on the R5 internally without a problem as long as it's the lower quality version, which looks pretty good. 60p and HQ are the problem

I think it improved (via FW).

But it wasn't hyped when I had the R5 on the day it was released. Brutal and unusable in the best options for real work days.

This is worth a 1 minute watch for you:

Im not going to be paying used EVA1 money to restart using a key. Keys are for vans.

AP.

Im not gonna use a recorder. I want a smart little cam for my bag. Not multi battery HDMI bendo hell.

But then the heat might be hype !

a6400 used to be my gimbal camera for faces.

The best 4K quality and AF for the price in the world, but of course with the worst rolling shutter in history.

There is a pattern here with how cameras are made...and it's no coincidence.

How much 60p do you need from this camera?

No idea. I dont consider 60 (actually 50 in my land) to be slow mo but it can add some dream to a shot and some stability to long lens.

Im just realising it doesnt have 120 ?? That is the R5??

4k25p you should be fine. the lower quality 4k looks good too and doesn't overheat and records unlimited internally. clermond and liam hall use it that way and like it

That old 24-70 is brutal with AF. But if you keep the shots to MSs/CUs, IQ can fit in with the majority of YouTube.

It's pixel-binned and/or line-skipped or whatever else they do...same HD quality the last 10 years from Canon stills hybrids.

That's how they do it in HD while others don't (like Blackmagic).

R6 image quality is solid IMO. Record limit is 30mn. Won't overheat in any modes until you record continuously for 70+ minutes in my tests.

I have bought the R6 and thus far it seems OK

Better video that the RP,

Slowly working out the buttons.

No overheats yet.

Not exactly sure how to meter log as histo is not as clear (to me) as a WFM

Ive made comments on my C200 thread.

Agreed on histogram, I generally set zebras to 95 or so and just view those as clipping.

I was thinking that. but some images I dont care about cliping a sky or a window or something and then one gets horrid zebras which make me feel too distracted to compose an image!
