Hi, so I am getting a list together of thing I am going to need when I purchase the cannon 7d, and I got to the audio part, and I saw the Canon MA-300 Dual XLR Microphone Adapter. Do you guys think this will be a good way to get XLR out of this cam?

The auto gain control will still be a problem. If you want to plug a microphone into the camera, consider the Beachtek DXA-5D, which defeats the AGC.

It's designed to get XLR into a camera but I don't think it will work with the 7D. Have a look at a SignVideo XLR-PRO if you want to get XLR feeds into the 3.5mm mic input on the 7D. There are others too...some that even claim to defeat the AGC.

Yea...I started to delete mine when I saw your post but what the heck...Magic Lantern will beat the AGC and the folks that bought Beachteks will feel pretty stoopid when they could have had an XLR-PRO for a lot less. ;-)

Whats the majic lantern

Magic Lantern is a third-party software created for the Canon 5D MKII, altering the functions of the camera to provide a better tool for video usage - eliminating AGC, adding Zebras, allowing for different aspect ratios, etc.

It is essentially only a matter of time now that the 7D receives similar treatment.

Audio controls are a big WTF coming from the video world. No audio controll and no audio monitoring without extensive cabeling?

Dual Systems are the way to go with DSLRs. Back to the days of film.

You get higher quality sounds, with just one added step in post.

Yea I understand its a still first but if you could turn off the mic and still record threw the in it would open alot of doors seems simple to fix hopefully in firmware
