I don't have any Canon glass - but always wonder if Canon IS/VR actually work
on the FS7 with Metabone ? anyone ever shoot a 400mm or larger with IS/VR on on the FS7 ?

Definitely works on all the following EF-mount lenses: Canon 24-105 F4, Canon L 28-300, Tamron 24-70, Canon 70-200 F2.8, using MB speedbooster.

Nope, not a true 400mm.

"600mm" (as in the 28-300 in centre-crop mode), works fine with heavy legs and a good lens support, but smooth tilts are pretty tough.

If you don't have the glass, I'm assuming you haven't yet got the adapter. If that's wrong, please ignore:

I use a Commlite adapter and it powers the IS quite happily on a 16-35/f4, 24-105, 70-200/f2.8 and the 100-400 Mk1.

I hear nothing but chatter about Metabones and I did own a speedbooster ultra briefly before returning it. The inbuilt button and modes seem to over complicate and create confusion, compared to the simpler and cheaper Commlite that just works, in my experience.

I also use the Commlite for stills on an A7ii with all of my Canon lenses, and the autofocus - when I use it - is quite usable, if not quite as fast as when using a Canon body.

Ben.

Does Canon IS work if I mount the camera and lens (300mm or 400mm) on tripod ?

I've never seen IS look good on a long lens. You get a rubber banding effect whenever you pan or tilt to follow wildlife, sports, or whatever. Maybe IS would be okay for a lock-down shot when you've got some micro vibration from wind buffeting or something like that, but IS is no substitute for a quality tripod system and a steady hand.

Most stabilization is designed for stills photography where reation speed is given priority, and that bias shows when you try to shoot telephoto video with it.

I think I'll bring my thermal underwear to the beach (in summer!) for the next surf shooting - it was cold (55F with 15 knots winds) in Santa Cruz.
