Canon hf10 headphone playback hum

I am getting a hum in my right ear headphone when I playback my video in the headphones. The left ear is flawless. What does this mean? I tried other headphones and the same thing happens.

The other problem is when I record live, the audio has an echo sound in the headphones. It plays back clean, but the audio has a headphone echo when capturing it.

I know I am doing something wrong. Forgive my ignorance. Still learning.

I recorded the audio with a new Sennheiser lapel clip mic.

I figured out why the hum. I turned on the headphones on the menu when filming, but there is another menu when you switch to playback mode and the headphones were not turned on. It was set to AV and not Headphones. So I switched the setting and the hum went away.

Now I am just left with the echoing problem. sounds like I am recording in a tunnel, but the playback is clean and normal.

with smaller cam's...and even the sdx900..when you record to 24P and 30P
there is a delay in your headphones resulting from the time it takes to "convert" the visuals to tape, the audio is delayed as well. This might be what you are experiencing.

try squeezing the headphones on your head so you dont hear any "bleed" from the natural sound, or place the mic'ed subject in one room...and goto another room with your headphones so you dont hear any "real life bleed", does the echo you are refering to go away?

If that is the case, there is really only a couple common sense things to solve it on set.
Turn your headphones up so there is less outside bleed, distance yourself farther from the subject, and in my case, usually I just bail on listening to the camera heads and listen directly off my mixer, and only occasionally switching over to the camera send just to spot check.

The echo is more reverb

The echo is more reverb

It doesn't seem to be coming from looping sound. It seems to be a reverb sound. I shot the whole video that way and yet the playback in the headphones was crystal clear and no problem. I can't figure it out. I will keep playing around with the playback settings.

thanks for your help.

just to clarify, its not a "looping" that im refering too...
its just a delay, and you're hearing the actual sound bleeding through your headphones + the delayed tape, resulting in an echo type situation.

got it. but how do you fix it? this reverb is all in the headphones. If I am in the other room talking into the lapel mic, my sound guy says he still his hearing reverb in the audio. I am transmitting wirelessly. Could the problem be in the Sennheiser wireless mic? The odd thing is the end result sounds beautiful. I am recording to AVCHD so there is no tape. All flash drive.
