Hello

i d like to ask if it worth at all using FD glass ? i know there are only cheap adopters, but now several guys on ebay offer to modify the fd mount to use it on eos. My c300 eaten most of my budget, also spent a fortune on accessories .... so if say true its going to be a long time till i ll be able to afford the glass i need from L series...., but also the focus throw on eos is kind of sucks.... i recently got L macro 100mm f2.8 IS and there is almost no room for manual focus at all....

i own now canon 28-70 L f2.8, and 20-35 L f2.8 , tokina 50-135 f2.8 and zeiss c/y 50 f1.7... and if say true zeiss is my favorite even there is a little breathing ... 20-35 is kind of nice ill probably leave it...

I never used FD yet, so is it good glass? does it breath? would u use it with c300?

any recommendations for some very special FD glass, that i should hunt for? i think i am going to get the full line of FD .....

any comments at all about FD glass - would love to hear them!

Regards

I've got a handful of Canon FD glass I've used on my C300 with the FotoDiox pro adapter. They have a very unique vintage look. I recently did a shoot with the canon 35mm and 50mm FD's.

Here's what I've noticed:
They're also a bit soft, which can actually be quite nice.
Too soft wide open
They flare really easily
I think you lose some light with the adaptor

Here are two frame grabs from the project, I can post a link when the client puts it on their website.

Most of the shots with talent are the EF 50mm 1.4. Most of the abstract NYC B-roll was shot with the FD 35mm or 50mm. Wide vistas were shot with the 16-35mm 2.8.

Could u plz tell what FDs exactly u used in that clip? i am asking cause u said that some of them soft , but there are several lenses exist in 35mm and in 50mm... also i think the softnes comes from the adoptor u use .... as i understand it contains the correction glass...

regards

Canon 50mm FD 1.8 w/ Bower AF/FD adaptor
Canon35mm 2.8 w/ Zykkor FD-Eos adaptor

Have the Foto Diox adaptor as well, all produced similar softness. Have to use an adaptor with glass to correct the flange distance, otherwise you end up with a macro only lens.

seems like i figured a few good examples of good FDs:

100mm f2.0
135mm f2.0
35mm concave f2.0
85mm f1.8
35-105 f3.5 macro

need to figure out the best ones with in 50mm , 24-28mm , and some wide & very wide
