Hello.

Please be very gentle being my first post. :kali: lol

I am about to buy a AF102EN and have read much about the use of FD prime lenses using a suitable adapter (Fotodiox sound about the best?) and seen footage and am quite impressed.

I would now like to take my research a stage further and ask you kind folks if you can share with the AF100 noob of your experiences and what such lens you recommend?

I have a shortlist of FD lenses:

28mm 2.8
35mm 2.8
50mm 1.4

I have several old Canon FD SSC lenses, those with the metalling ring, and I can confirm that they are working well. The FD lenses have a fantastic filmic look and produce sharp pictures. You must use a good ring adapter, such as the Novoflex, which I do use after trying a cheeper one. The novoflex is not so much expensive. Try it.

I use mostly Nikons or native m4/3 lenses but I have some FD lenses, and got an adapter for my AF100. They have a really lovely tone. I think they will give you a really good start. I think you've made good choices. All the best with your new camera.

I have these FD and FL lenses from the 70's:
24mm f2.8
35mm radio active f2 (has a radio active coating that slowly turns a sepia brown) quite a nice effect if you balance with a clear lens.
50mm f1.4 this lens has serious internal reflection problems on the AF100 if you have a light source pointed at the lens, the EOS f1.4 does not have this problem
70-210 f4 (nice if you like bicycle pumps) small and nice range for sunsets
135mm f2.8 very nice old FL lens

I have used all these with the Fotodiox adapter, the MTF adapters are very good as well.

I now have the the RedRock adapter so I use my EOS lenses much more. But I have gotten some very nice shots with these vintage lenses. And I will use them in the future as well. They have a great feel, both in your hands and on the imager.

I shoot all my music videos now on a 50mm f1.4, 35mm f2.8 & 135mm f2.5. All of which I love shooting with.

+ also the Lumix 7-14mm

Here's one of my last videos:

I have a Canon FD 100MM macro lens, which I just bought on ebay. I 've done a little bit of shooting with this lens and love it.

My friend just shot a small feature on the AF100 and his most often used lens was a FD 35mm f2.0

I find myself using my 35mm most often as well with the AF100... I have actually shot a couple projects with just that one focal length. I use a nikon 35mm f/1.4 AI, but the FOV of a 35mm lens on the AF100 really works well as a normal lens for me. My 35mm, 20mm, and 85mm I find to be my most common used lengths, with my 24 being a close fourth.

Awesome replies guys, many thanks. So the Novoflex is the best adapter for FD and Redrock for EOS until the Birger ever shows its face lol.

What about other old lenses like Olympus OM Zuiko 28mm f3.5? Whats a good adapter for these types of lenses?

The Olympus MF-2 adapter works great with my OM lenses. Olympus, of course, wants you to be able to use their old SLR lenses on your shiny new Micro Four Thirds Pen, so they actually make this one themselves. I get a bit of a tear in my eye when I use my old 50/1.4 (purchased in 1973 when I got my OM-1, my first SLR, at the age of 16) on my AF-100 -- and it still makes fine pictures, too.

I think the ciecio7 FD adapter is functionally as good as the novoflex for quite a bit less money, I have 2 of them. The 35mm f2 FD s.s.c. is a very good lens (if you get the right version), the 50mm f1.4 FD s.s.c. is fantastic if you get a sample in good condition. I prefer my Canon 50 f1.4 to my Leica Summicron 50 for interviews.

I have to disagree: I have several FD lenses, in excellent conditions. Two of them (35mm f2 silver ring and 85mm f1,2 L series) don't reach infinity focus if I use Cecio7 adapter. With novoflex they are perfect ! Futhermore Cecio7 adapter has too much play so when I use follow focus there's an unecceptable shift in the image with long focal lenses.

Now Cecio7 adapter is in my bag only as a reserve one, but for my needs it is simply unusable
