Canon FD fit t3i?

You can get lens adapters to fit a Canon FD lens to a Canon EOS camera body, but those adapters include a corrective optical element. This is because the lens register distance of the older FD lens (42.0 mm) is shorter than the register of the current EOS EF or EF-S lens (44.0 mm ).

You can get an adaptor for Canon FD lenses but it is not recommended. You need to use an adaptor with a glass element in it, and seeing as there are no quality ones made by any company at the moment, it means you'll lose resolution. You also end up with a further cropping in addition to the APS-C 1.6x crop.

The Vivitar lens might work depending on what lens mount it has. Older Nikon, Pentax and M42 lenses are examples of manual focus glass which can be easily adapted easily to the t3i.

Quite right -- I should have added in my original post: "if you can live with that, go ahead". I had an FD lens which I adapted for my GH1 - that mirrorless camera has a shorter register distance than that of the FD lens, so no optical element needed - but I never bothered to get an adapter for it when I started using canon DSLRs. You are better staying with lenses that have no optical element in the adapter. For a Canon EOS camera that would include:

Nikon F
Pentax K
Contax/Yashica MM
Olympus OM
M42 screw
Leica R

I've got quite a few FD lenses for my mirrorless cams (GH1 and GH2), and I've actually considered getting a glass-less adapter for my EOS as well (or getting one with a glass element I can pop out, since the glass-less ones are kind of hard for me to find for some reason).

Basically, because of the flange distance, you'll lose the ability to focus to infinity. But on the flip side, if I understand this correctly, you'll actually gain some macro focusing on the other side of the spectrum (right?). For most medium range shots, I think you'll still easily get your subject in focus. Landscapes and super-wides might be a problem.

yes, it's like adding a 3mm macro tube, so it will focus a bit closer, and probably won't focus farther than 2m
