I purchased a FD mount 50 1.4 for a steal. I am having a hard time focusing. The images are creamy and soft. I have used this prior and it was RAZOR sharp. Anything you can recommend to assist in focusing? (I'm using the FD to EOS mount without the conformation chip)
If you are using an FD to EOS adapter without corrective glass element you won't be able to focus past some inches (no infinity focus), so this will be useful only for macro work.
If you are using the FD to EOS with glass element, then you should be able to maintain infinity focus, however your image will be softer overall, your field of view more cropped than with other 50mm lenses, and you may get flares, halos and additional softness at wide apertures. FD lenses are not the best available option for EOS bodies.
Also, the FD line of lenses are generally not terribly well thought of. Decent, but given the problems Kostas mentions above, not worth the trouble for the EOS cams.
