Canon ENG B4 Lens on GH1

I always use my rig, but as an alternative solution I would buy one of those cheap Tripod Mount Ring from ebay and see if it's possible to use it on B4 lens.
Thanks!

Any recommendation on which Canon ENG zoom? Is internal focusing a must? Which feature is necessary to make sure the front element does not rotate while zooming and focusing?

Do you see any drawback in Canon J15X9.5B4 KRS?

Thanks in advance.

Has anyone tested the coverage with a 1.4x extender ? I'm asking because its just 1 stop slower. 2/3-inch is equivalent to 16mm and the GH1 has a 22mm image circle.
A 1.4x for a 16mm gives 22.4mm.
Cheers!

A 2/3" format lens has an image circle of around 11mm so you really need a 2x extender/teleconverter. I've used the optics from a 1.4x extender to convert a 1" format lens for use on the GH1, though, and it works great. The image circle on those is around 16mm, and there are some very handy 1" lenses out there. Post conversion, the ones I have will be 21-210 f/2.4, 20-234 f/2.5, 32-450 f/4.5, 50-700 f/7, and 22-490 f/3 (though this last one is not constant f number). What they lack is markings for focus and aperture since they were motor driven CCTV lenses, but I never really use the markings anyway.

I've also mounted a Fujinon A14x8.5 lens on the GH1, and it works very very well. With the 2x extender the image circle is the perfect size. After struggling with Canon still lenses that are too sloppy for video work, this lens is like a dream. With the 2x extender engaged it is not terribly fast at f/3.4, but in a low light emergency you can flip the lens back to 1x and put the camera in 2x and sacrifice resolution but gain a lot of light. In fact I like this combination so much I'm going to start doing turnkey conversions and selling them including power for the servo zoom, remote shutter release from the VTR button, and a tripod mount on the lens. These obsolete video lenses deserve a second life in micro 4/3.

Arrggg! I seem to have fried another servo. I bought another Fujinon B3 mount lens because I fried the servo on the first lens I bought and I really want to have a working servo zoom. The new lens has the 6 pin connector in stead of the 12 pin on the first lens. Everything I've read says that the first 6 pins are the same. And everything I've read says that pin 3 is Ground and pin 6 is +12V.
So I carefully seperated out the six wires and I swear that I am counting the pins correctly. I wired the brown wire to ground and the blue wire to +12V. I switch on the 12V power supply and the Iris closes, the zoom doesn't seem to work then I hear the sickening pop of a capacitor and smell smoke. I shut off the 12v power supply.
Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? and has anybody been successful at this?

Hello, for 6 pin Fujinon :

Blue is +
Orange is -

Have nice day

Internal focus means the front element will not rotate during focusing. It's only a must if you must have it :-)
The J15x9.5B4 will work fine, but you will see more CA with it than with some of the other lenses.

Thanks. Can you please recommend better ENG zoom with less CA?

Yes, there are several that are very good - Canon J13x9B IRS, Canon J14ax8.5B IRS (which is internal focus), Canon J8x6B IRS (also IF), Fujinon Pegasus III A14x8.5BERM, Fujinon Pegasus I/II A14x9BERM, and quite a few others. These are the most common that you find and are probably going to be the best bang for the buck.

All 6 adapters (3 B4 to Nikon and 3 B4 to FD) are ready to be shipped tomorrow. I will send buyers a PM individually with shipping info.

Has anyone successfully powered 12 pin FUJINON or Canon? The 6 pin out for Fujinon servo given here worked for me, but 12 Pin is definitely different, it seems.

I built a battery box that plugs into the 12 pin cable and provides power to the servo on my 3 fujinon lenses. I don't have any canon lenses to try, but as far as I know they use the same connector. The first six pins of the 12 pin connector are the same as the 6 pin connector. Pin 3 is - and pin 6 is +. If anyone needs a battery box or cable for these I can make them. Most orphan lenses have dead or malfunctioning servos, though. I prefer to operate the zoom manually, and remove the servo grip to save weight.

Since the zoom grip on one of my Fujinon lenses (6 pin) works and the other doesn't (12 pin), with same wiring, I am tempted to think it was a dead servo on the 12 pin.

Anyone power any Canons successfully and can list the corresponding colors to pins?

So far it seems the Canons have significantly better IQ than Fujinon. In my opinion.

I have one more B4 to Nikon adapter. Please pm me if interested.

Below is the only thing you need to be aware.

====================================================
Please look at the small pin pointed by a screw driver on the picture
attached. To be able to fit B4 to Nikon adapter on a B4 lens, this small pin
needs to be grinded about 0.5 mm.

It does not interfere with lens functionality at all, but it just needs to be
0.5mm shorter than it is.

Has anyone tried ENG lens on GH2 with ETC enabled? I wonder how it would perform at f/1.8. Sharper and more shallow DOF than using 2x extender?

Haven't tried it, but undoubtedly it would be sharper with the brighter iris. You wouldn't lose two stops due to the extender. The GH2 in ETC mode is essentially a 1/2" to 2/3" video camera at that point, so it'll be using the lens basically like it was designed for it.

But no, it won't have shallower DOF. It'll have the same DOF as any other 1/2" to 2/3" camera.
