hi all,

i just want to confirm this before putting down $1k on this lens.

can i use the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 on the GH2, as long as i get the kipon eos-MFT adapter?

it seems like this should be a great lens for the camera...but i haven't seen much about GH2 users
using this lens.

and thoughts/advice would be much appreciated.

I bought a cheap one off ebay, it was a while ago and from memory it was maybe $30 or so
I only chose this one because of the little tripod mount which you can see in the picture - its part of the adapter.
The EF zooms get much heavier than the ones designed for these little cams.

-- I did a quick search on ebay but couldn't see the one I bought, but any of them will work

I have the kipon, which works great for my canon ef glass. I probably wouldn't go with an adapter that didn't have an iris... major hassle otherwise. Although you could stop light with a vari nd, but man... having to lug around a canon dslr just to adjust the aperture? That would get pretty annoying I would think.

It would be if I had to lug but I'm only doing studio work these days. But even if I was out I would take the canon body with the lens on it -- the gh2 body is my extra and as you know its quite small

go for kippon if you want. I'm just answering the original poster as to how I do things, not other people.

Can someone recommend a Canon FD zoom along with the correct adapter? I'm running the Panny 14mm and Leica 25mm and don't have anything for the higher focal lengths. Those Panny fast zooms look like they're a ways off.

take a look at this quirky but relatively scientific shoot out on the af100

he pits cooke s4 35mm ($18,000 lens!) against several lenses including the 17-55. FYI the canon looked real good to my eye.

FWIW, I had a copy of this lens, and a copy of the non-vc Tamron in the same focal length. I'd compare the two if you can - you might end up saving yourself a lot of money.

This is true if you are only shooting video. For stills the canon beats the tamron by a mile.
