Canon EF-S 15-85mm Thoughts/Reviews

I had a chance to check out the new Canon 15-85mm EF-S lens the other day, and I have to say I came away very impressed. (I was playing around with it in-store, so I don't have any footage to share. Yet. Maybe soon. Maybe.)

Here are a couple of reviews that go a bit more in-depth about the lens and the pros and cons.

If I were in the market for a "walk-around" lens for the 7D, and I didn't already have the EF-S 17-55 f2.8, the 15-85 would be at or near the top of my list. Combine this with a fast prime or two and maybe a telephoto, and you'd have a pretty good all-around 7D kit, I think.

I love it!
It came as a kit lens with my 7D...I'll post some vid I've been shooting with it in a day or so....

Nice!

I'm really surprised that more people aren't talking about this lens. Sure, it's on the slow side at f3.5-5.6, but it's sharp as a tack and the implementation of IS (image stabilization) is first rate. And yes, it's EF-S only, but I think Canon has shown they have no intentions of walking away from APS-C cameras whatsoever.

Can't wait to see what you're shooting, Vince. (As long as it's not snuff films.)

I agree....I've read alot about other lenses for the 7D but this one is not getting it's due.
Razor sharp focusing and the IS is great for run n gun style...although I'm still getting used to the ergonomics of the whole setup and the heaviness of the lens. Even though I'm a film guy, I still shoot tons of vid with my Z1U, and this is alot different.
I know an easy glider or something similar as a stabilizer is going to have to be implemented into my kit.
It's also labeled as a 15-85mm lens... but if I'm not mistaken, on the 35mm sensor ( with the 1.6x adjustment), doesn't that actually make it more of a 24-135mm?
Either way, it covers all my bases and me likey!
I also grabbed a 50mm 1.8 EF...

...and no...no snuff films....just music videos, tons of promo stuff, and anything else worth shooting.
