Hi all

Thinking about picking up the new Canon 85.. Has anyone tried this out with DPAF on C300 MKII or C200? Curious how well it performs..

interested in this as well.

i know the canon 85 is huge and it's focus in the photo world is notoriously slow.
any one used the sigma 85?

*edit* realize you were talking about the 1.4 and not the 1.2...but still

Used it on the c200 and it's fast and accurate, as expected, even at 1.4, although I used it mostly at 2.0.

FWIW, I have had good results with the 85mm 1.8 as well. Not sure if the extra expense for the 1.4 is worth it, for video. For stills I can see it, for video, you can pick up a lightly used 1.8 for next to nothing and they are just as sharp and good looking.

Nice! That's encouraging. It seems like a very solid lens.. I'd probably be using it for interviews and such mostly. Curious if you've done any hand held shooting with it w/ IS?

For sure, I agree. I used to own the 1.8 and really liked it. I feel like the overall build quality/weather sealing and f1.4 would push me to the new L, but its a pretty massive price difference.

Basically, with lens choices, you are either paying more for better images or more for better operational features like the CNe 18-80 T4.4. To me, the 85mm 1.4 is not operationally any different and the images don't look significanty better. Perhaps a little bit better. So you are paying a LOT more for a little more speed that for video, is negligible for most shoots. I would use the difference and buy perhaps a Sigma ART 18-35 1.8, but that's just me. Then I would have both. Come to think of it, the 18-35mm 1.8 ART and the Canon 85mm 1.8 would make a sweet little two lens travel kit!
