Hi, does anybody use the Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L? If so I have 3 questions for you.

1. Is the Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L parafocal?
2. Does the Canon EF 24-70mm get darker when you zoom in like the 24-105 does when not wide-open at F4
3. How is the image stabiliser for video?

Thanks!

I don't own the lens, so this is just the information that I found online when asking the same questions.
1) It is not parfocal.
2) It has the same design, so it will get darker when zooming. All of the Canon L lenses that zoom either externally or internally get darker.
3) The image stabilizer is the newest generation and is better and quieter than the 24-105. I believe it is the same as what is in the 100 2.8L IS. It does not, however, have the dynamic IS that is in the 18-135 STM.

1. Deviations in zoom so small - I would say parfocality! 2. Not dark! 3. Excellent stabilizer! Better than 18-135 STM 24-70 4L II excellent lens, a good supplement to my Sigma 18-35 1.8 Few photos from 24-70 4L IS (Canon 60D + Canon EOS C100) : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88377485/24-70 4L IS.rar

So, if you stop down below f/4 and zoom, there is no loss in light transmission? Interesting. I guess Canon has changed their lens design.
I didn't realize the 24-70 f/4 had better stabilization than the 18-135. Canon markets the 18-135 STM as having "dynamic IS" specifically designed for shooting video while moving. The 24-70 f/4 IS is not marketed that way. I have the 16-35 f/4 IS that I assumed had the same IS as the 24-70 f/4 II and it is not as adaptable as the 18-135 STM.

You should do a search on this lens on this forum. It is definitely not par focal. I have a severe problem with mine, mainly indoors, when at f4 I lose about a stop when zoomed all the way in. An expert on this forum doubted me but I proved it with screen grabs. SO it is not a good, low light interior lens.

Mine also has a little play in the barrel but when I brought it into Canon they said it was "within specs". The stabilizer works well with gross movements, otherwise you won't notice it.

For me, due to its range it is my go-to lens for when I am in a situation where I don't know what will happen next. The 11-16 is on my belt in a pouch. But you should do a search on this forum, it has been discussed many times.

I think you are talking about the 24-105 f/4L. The OP was wondering about the 24-70 f/4L. I haven't seen very much info about the lens and this is the first time that I've heard that it was parfocal and that it didn't lose light while zooming.

The problem with asking if a lens is parfocal is that it varies among copies. Some lens designs are definitely not parfocal and would never be parfocal as long as the lens is within normal tolerance. Other lenses may be designed to be close to parfocal, but a little more less pressure on the screws on the mount can completely throw it off. I've made some of my lenses parfocal by adding extremely thin shims to the mount.

I compared the 24-70/2.8 and 24-70/4 IS. The difference in Aperture 2.8 -4.0 this compensation at 800 ISO. For the CanoEOS C100 is a little, but we have a great stabilizer!
