Canon Confirms 24p And 25P For 5D via firmware update!!!

I am abslolutely overjoyed for all you 5D owners!!!!!! Hopefully I can soon join in your full frame glory!
Congrats guys:thumbsup:

Another reason for my Canon love/hate relationship. I traded my 5D 2 for a 7D. If they'd release the new firmware upgrade now I'd be kicking myself for sure.

LoL Chip. Don't feel bad: a lot of us were told by actual Canon employees and representatives that it WASN'T going to happen. That doesn't mean they can't change their mind or discover other ways to achieve it.

But uh... 2010? Come on now. There're still two and a half months left in 2009... I think it's time to start a hardcore petition to get that Firmware Update in the next few weeks.

This is hilarious. I knew it would happen. Now all the naysayers can find something else to dislike about the camera, or wait for the Scarlet, or wait for Panasonic to catch up. Ignore the rumors people, if you're on this board speculating then likely no one you know has a clue about what Canon/Panny/Sony or Jimmy down the street is doing with their R&D.

Absolutely awesome. Even after the Canon rep said "it ain't gonna happen", they did it anyway.

I'm floored and flabbergasted, but I'm also very glad to be wrong on this one, and it speaks very well for Canon going forward!

This simply confirms one more time that reps are unreliable source of information when it comes to technical issues. They just push the product, they don't do actual R&D.

Considering issues with overheating, low resolution, aliasing and whatever else we don't know about, I can see why Canon has not yet released a proper full-frame or s35-frame camcorder. I am confident that Canon will do it right after it solves the issues found in existing VDSLRs. These hybrid cams are guinea pigs for future videocams, and also allow to spread the R&D cost.

Barry, I really hope Panny is taking notes at this EXCELENT costumer and product support. I hope Jan knows about this and pressures the guys in the Japan factory. This is trully the way forward. Canon learned from the RED camp and is really entering into the age of direct feedback and costumer support. Good job!

I had one hit me with the you guys'll just have to get over it (he had the smug mug too). Manual controls and 24p ain't gonna happen, its a still camera first blah, blah, blah. Then manual controls happened and stopped listening to anything coming out state side. I commend Canon on doing something none of the big three have really ever done, addressing a well known customer issue with an update and not 5d mkII.1 etc.

This is a play by play repeat of the manual controls update.

A confirmation that Canon reps don't know any more than we do. People keep spreading misinformation, falsifying data, making wild assumptions, blaming the market and hardware limitations as though they know the facts. The only undeniable fact is proven once again that nobody really knows anything.

The sad part is that nobody will learn from this and it will keep repeating indefinitely.

Sorry, to clarify though it WAS NOT JUST CANON REPS that gave out this information. I know for a fact the "no 24p firmware because of hardware" didn't come from a Canon rep on my end.

So nobody spread false information, we were relaying exactly what we were told and if someone decides to change their mind, that's a different story.

Well, it's hard to take the product manager for canon digital imaging, the guy who's responsible for all the camera and camcorder lines in the USA, Tim Smith, and say "he doesn't know anything."

But he was wrong at least twice, and so yes, this does prove that pretty much nobody knows anything. As far as I know, these moves by Canon are pretty much unprecedented, but they are a great precedent and I hope everyone adopts this as their new model of working with the customer!

What I really like about this move is that Canon is not just making great products, but crucially they're building massive loyalty.

Canon = Cutthroat. They proved that with the XH-A1 vs XL-H1 a while back and just keep proving it over and over again.
