Canon Charges $359.00 + Shipping for Cleaning

Greenheron,

The C300 is a great camera, but I understand your concerns. I purchased on the Lease to buy with one day left in Sept. They told me it would end and then they kept it going with $1K rebate. They will not give me the rebate.
Also I have excellent insurance on all of my gear and put the C300 on it right away. Canon asked for proof, we gave it to them now they say we have to give it too them again or there will be a $28.62 monthly payment. Be careful of the Canon Deal I will never lease to buy from them again. They are also making it hard for me to pay it off. This month they told me I can't do that and have to wait. Buyer be ware!! This is the first time I have leased to buy and will always buy in the future.

Paul, thank you for the valuable information. I have been renting and using the camera and do love the image it produces. Still there are a lot of little things that Canon did wrong or has yet to address with this first generation camera. Coming from a professional camera world of Sony XDCAM HD and Panasonic DVCPro HD products there is a lot left for Canon to fix on these cameras. So sad that Canon is leaving unhappy users with their lack of firmware updates, inflexible programs and questionable customer service. I have had good service from both Sony and Panasonic who expect that they are servicing professionals who need their equipment to work or be repaired quickly.

I will keep shooting with the C300 as a rental but will hold of on a purchase for now.

Greenheron,

Glad I could help. Also from the XDCAM family having owned EX1's, EX3, PMW-350, PMW-500, PDW-F800, (Cameras listed for Canon's benefit to know I am vested in the business).
I also love the picture but would like it up to par with the price. I also have a 5D MKIII and use it for still only and love the camera. Now there is a product they have dialed in.
I am going to hold onto the C300 till the F5 comes along and go that path. As for the C500 Canon has not earned my business, I work too hard for my money not to be respected.

Hopefully the F5 will deliver what looks to be an impressive camera next year. It certainly looks like Sony has dialed in that camera and the F55.
The F5 being the next generation from the F3, I wonder if Canon will follow the C300 with as well thought out 2nd generation platform.

Yeah, I love my 7D for stills but hate to try to shoot video with the thing.

Since I still have my XDCAM HD I can afford to wait and just rent when the job/client warrants using a film style camera.
Once the new Sony's come out I'm sure the ad agency people will start murmurs about that camera.

Anyway thanks for the info.
Happy shooting with the C300.
