Just got this memo from Canon that they have pulled the C300 firmware.

Title: Service Notice: EOS C300 and C300PL Firmware Version 1.1.0.1.00 has been discontinued.

To Users of the Canon EOS C300 and C300PL Cinema EOS Cameras.
Thank you for using Canon products.

We have suspended download services for Firmware Version 1.1.0.1.00 that was posted Tuesday November 12, 2013 at 8PM EST, because it has been determined that discrepancies in color balance can occur with footage captured by the EOS C300 and EOS C300PL running Firmware Version 1.1.0.1.00.

We are currently preparing new firmware with a fix for this issue and will release it as soon as it is available.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience, but we ask for your patience during this time.

I went and installed the updates to get the magnification function for a shoot. I don't see anything that is wrong with the color, and Canon couldn't tell me what was wrong either. So... not sure exactly what they are talking about. I shot hours of footage in all kinds of conditions in C-Log with no issues. Maybe it's an issue with Wide DR? For me, there aren't any issues.

I completely agree! I talked to a Canon rep this morning. He said the "problem" is that color in firmware version 1.1.0.1.00 may not match color in previous firmware. So, if you update mid-shoot, and have to match images, there may be a color issue.

I haven't shot since I updated, but I have looked at color charts. If anything, I think color looks better. I have been using Art Adams Alexa-like picture profiles lately, and typically I increase the matrix gain from -35 to -30 for more saturation. With the new firmware I didn't need to increase the gain. I also have never liked the way the C300 looked with Picture Profile turned off, but after this update it looks good - accurate, saturated colors and no greenish cast. C-Log looks great too. I think NeedCreative may be right, Wide DR doesn't look so good. It is a little greenish.

Based on what I've seen, I like the color rendition. I may stick with it even after the firmware is fixed.

I did shoot a bit for testing before I updated at the shoot location. Same subjects etc outside my hotel window and inside both looked identical before/after the update. Once I knew I was good, I updated the C100 too; no issues there either.

They did change the color science in the most recent firmware before this (or the one before, not sure) to match the C100, which improved things slightly.

That's what I didn't test, because I don't generally use Wide DR on my C100 (I have one of those too). I found it noisy, so I avoid it. It could be those who shoot Wide DR are having issues, especially if it looks tinted... that's not right. Clearly something doesn't match up or they wouldn't have pulled it but that's all I can think of.
