C200: Canon C200 loud fan. Faulty?? Comparison video

Hi I’ve just got a C200. To me, the fan noise seems quite excessive, even on ‘low’, and automatic seems pointless as it just stays on anyway. I still have my c100 mkii which I’ve compared it to in the video link below. To me it’s nearly unusable. Is there a fault? It’s about 5 times louder than the c100 mkii. The c100 is pretty much silent and the C200 is as loud as my MacBook fan. I’m pretty sure if doing an interview any mic would pick it up from a few metres away. Makes having quiet preamps pointless! As for mics on the camera - no chance, all I can hear is fan. I’ve only had it a few days and almost considering sending it back as for me having something that records sound making a background sound that loud is mental

Here’s the comparison https://youtu.be/1rgmDao3d5w

Embarrassingly, this was helpful. So I need to set to automatic and then it turns off during recording. I had it set to always on and obviously it didn’t stop during recording, and when I had it on auto it wasn’t recoridng

I'm getting mine this week  i'm wondering after how much time the fan kicks in when recording?

I've shot interviews with mine in an average temp room and studio, all LED lighting so not a lot of heat in the room and the fan kicks in usually at around 44 minutes. Obviously this will vary depending on ambient temp. It comes in for about 2 minutes, then shuts off again. Sound mixer didn't give me the evil eye so it couldn't have been too loud, but I was about 10-12' from the subject.

good to hear ,was that wile shooting rawlite?

Yeah thanks for that info - really useful. After it comes on for a couple of minutes, does it come on again pretty soon? Also, what the guy above said ... is that raw? 4K? HD

4K not RAW, for some reason I have not shot a RAW sit down interview yet, only outdoor interviews.

Once when I did a really long (90 minute?) interview, it came on twice for about two minutes each time.

Do you do any back-up recording when you shoot interviews that long?

One of my biggest concerns when recording too long is having any kind of corruption take place and ending up losing the entire clip.

I continuously stop recording every chance I get (if I can). It's sometimes a pain to have 15-20 clips from one interview, but I just can't bring myself to record something for an extended period of time (if I can control it), let alone 90 minutes!
