C100: Canon C100 vs. C100 Mk II ? Is the upgrade worth it?

Thanks for the response. Man, I was definitely NOT going to upgrade. Now, rethinking that a bit. Seems that the C300 is where I ultimately want to end up. That said, its inevitable that the price will drop 8-12 months after its release. So Im now playing with the idea of upgrading the to the C100M2....hang onto it for a year...then trade up to a C300M2. Just don't know. I'm very happy with the C100's image.

My dilemma is that I work for an entertainment agency and have a fixed salary. Its great. My dream job. The problem is, if I decide to purchase gear, there really is no plan for a return. I make the same if I have the next best thing....or not. Its really just me who "wants" it. Its not a requirement. They are totally happy with what we have going for us now.

Interested in others opinions. Would you take a major financial risk (C300M2) for the sake and love of your art without a return on the investment...and to stay current with technology...or not?
Go check out Blue is the Warmest Color, which was shot in 1080p on a C300 Mark I and Angenieux lenses. It won Cannes. If that doesn't look good enough to satisfy your creative artistic vision you should probably move up to an Amira or something. Get a C300MII if you have clients that require 4k or are looking to get hired for freelance jobs that are specifically requesting that camera.

As you the one operating the Camera it becomes a trade tool. Yes there are visual improvements to the image, but to me it seems the easier use for one guy is the key. It would just be easier and more rewarding to shoot with.

There are 16 kinds of hammers. Some have curved claws, some have straight. Some have magnetic nail holders, some don't. Some are heavy, some are light. In the end they will all drive a nail, it is the person using the hammer to know how to not bend the nail over.

With that being said, I like features. Things like the magnetic nail holder are great for starting the nail while hanging over the side of a ladder. Sure the pros may not need that but it helps me.

The Mark 2 has some features that would make my life much easier on a shoot. To me that is worth the extra money without spending more than I need to on an Arri or Red. My Mark 1 is great and has made my life much easier for the last 2 years (over a 7D). Given the choice today I would rather go to a Mark 2 and use that for at least the next 2 years if not more.

^^^^^This. Completely agree.

In the end, I'd personally recommend you not over extend yourself unless your clients are requesting things you need from the 300MkII. Sounds like the 100MkII will get you to where you need to be and won't push you into dangerous territory.
