C100: Canon C100/Ninja 2

Hi all,

My trusty C100 will no longer connect to my Ninja 2. So I tried with a mate’s C100 with the same result. I changed the HDMI cables 3 times. Same result. The Ninja 2 claimed there was ‘No Signal’.

Strange as it was working last week and no menu changes have been made.

I plugged the C100 into an external monitor and then a smart TV - all was well. A good, clean picture, the HDMI connections were all snug and jiggling them did not reveal any loose connections or result in any picture breakup.

I then plugged my 5DMK4 into the Ninja 2 and the video image appeared immediately. Again, a good, clear picture and no issues when the HDMI connectors were jiggled about. We tried a second DSLR and that worked well too.

So, the Ninja 2 has refused to work with 2 different C100 cameras but works quite happily with a Canon 5DMK4.

I have also waved my hand in front of the lens and panned the camera from left to right to try to activate the pulldown. No joy there either.

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Cheers!

I recall having to wave a hand in front of the lens so that the Atomos would detect the video movement and start displaying. It was one of the reasons I upgraded to the Ninja Blade. Have you tried that?

Cycle through some framerates and see if that works. Try resetting the camera (saves settings if applicable) if all else fails.

Missed that. I was reading it on my phone.

The only other thing that I can think of is that some HDMI setting is configured improperly. I’ve had issues in the past with monitors recognizing a signal when timecode was embedded in the HDMI signal. But you have probably already checked that.

I have used many Atomos Ninja Blades (I think the direct follow-up to the Ninja II), and I have had numerous problems with them (won't turn on, screen goes black, screen flickers, loses signal from HMDI, etc.)

Maybe the Ninja 2 is just dying.
