C100: Canon C100 Moire?

Can anyone who has this camera honestly comment on the Moire? I am currently using the FS100 to shoot promotional spots for a rather large clothing company.
I would love to hear what people think about the capabilities to shooting tight patterns on clothing. The Sony does a great job at keeping the moire at a minimum, it's just the Canon produces the images I'm after for my other work.
I just need to keep a moire-less image for my biggest client!!
Thanks-

It's quite visible on moving water, leaves, and pine fir, but that is at Vimeo compression levels. I am told that the moire is not quite so apparent with the on-board codec at it's full resolution.

There is some fine moire. Which surprised me. I thought canon would have sorted that out. I can post some clips if you like. It is quite fine, and would mostly go unnoticed I would suspect.

EDIT : Never mind. I see it now.. Settings in your NLE can make or break your footage regarding PsF and malignant PsF.
All I really need to know is if the C100 is on par with the FS100'S handling of moire. I really hope it is!!

Hi Pave1, i just started poking around DVinfo for more on the moire issue.
The first link you provided doesnt show me anything on the C100 and moire unless I'm missing something, and the 2nd two links don't specify weather I'm looking at internal recorded C100 footage or external.
Can you elaborate a little?
Thanks a ton!!

Hey Sebben, anything you can show me would be great! I am trying make a pretty big decision for my department the coming weeks!!

I rented one to shoot some rock climbing video and I didn't notice any moire. But my footage had a background of leafless trees and brown sandstone, and I recorded to an Atamos Ninja II, so I haven't exactly pushed the moire envelope. The compressed Vimeo shots I've seen did put it through it's moire paces, and it was quite visible with certain objects. I'm holding off on my purchase of a C100 until I try out the EOS 1-DC and see which one I prefer.

Actually the first link provides a lot of info on what I'm dealing with right now on the C100. It's been a mystery to me on what's going on, that might be it. When I bring my footage in Avid, it looks like hell. Maybe not that bad, but a fair bit of moire and aliasing, NLE thinks footage is interlaced? I'm on Avid 5.5 and new to avchd. If there are any Avid users out there using the C100, would love to hear from you and your workflow. It's my go to NLE and am right in the middle of a huge corporate edit with C100. I tried the 3rd party clipwrap, cineform, but it's still there. Luckily I can export a clean QT out of avid without the moire and aliasing showing up. It's weird. So I export QT into Compressor for blu-ray burn, my deliverable medium for this shoot. I'm sure there's a better way (not use avid), but I'm in a pinch and need to get it finished.
Other than that, love the camera, would recommend it. Just need to get the kinks worked out in the edit bay.

The whole Moire (colour cast on fine detail) thing may be down to NLE settings.

After a day's shooting with the C100, I was so impressed I bought one, and am now in the post cycle of its first paying job - which includes GVs of Milan and chromakey interviews.

I knew from my tests that some Edit systems have a hard time with C100 footage. I'm using FCPX on this job. I've been through the 'how to get your NLE software to correctly interpret its 25PSF footage as progressive' hoops of fire.

If I hadn't sorted the post chain, I'd have been deeply worried about the Moire of the C100 as I got horrible Moire on first view of the rushes in FCPX. As soon as I put the C100 rushes on a 1080p timeline, then set all the rushes to 'Progressive' in the Event Viewer, everything was lovely - truly spectacular rushes way beyond anything I've expected from my FS100. If I just accepted FCPX defaults based on what it saw from the C100, I'd be spitting fire - the worst moire, low resolution, horrible compression and a very poor result.

Canon, in its infinite wisdom, have blessed the C100 with a very poor implementation of the AVCHD codec in that it's spectacularly easy to make C100 rushes look bad in an NLE. Which is a shame, because the reality is that it outshines the FS100 in detail and dynamic range.
