C100: Canon C100 Auto Focus demo video with Joe Simon

How long was the turn around time? Just sent mine in today and can't wait!
I talked to Canon USA yesterday and the tech said they were pretty backed up at the moment. 5-7 days unless you're a CPS member above a certain level which might take a couple days off the turnaround time. He also said it should be faster in a couple weeks when the number of cameras coming in slows down.

Looks awful to me, looks like quick snapping auto focus and resembles the video look (not what the C100 should mirror) - although i suppose it could be ok for run n gun if thats what you want, but ill stick with manual zoom for now especially at $500.

Ah I actually sent my camera in last Friday and it's due to be back to me tomorrow (Friday). So looks like it's about a week on the Westcoast when it's going down to the California location.

I'm interested in seeing more samples of people walking toward the camera as the focus is adjusting to them. That's a tough shot with stills lenses around f4. The racking samples stuff doesn't really float my boat.

I have to agree. I could be talking out of my ass but it might possible for Canon to alter the communication between the camera and lens so it's less photographic auto focus and more natural looking.

+1

It sure doesn't look like it's suited to artistic focus racking, but if you need to recompose a shot or your interview subject starts rocking back and forth in their chair, this could be a lifesaver. This could also be a good solution for zooming with lenses that aren't parfocal (as in most EF lenses).
I'd really like to see a few more tests with moving subjects, backlit subjects, narrower apertures, and hand held shots.
Also, keep in mind that you don't need to have this on all the time but can use it in a one shot mode to grab focus and then leave it there.

This is an article on newsshooter.com

http://www.newsshooter.com/2014/03/...s-af-in-the-real-world-with-non-canon-lenses/

The writer says
"You can't change aperture during AF, doing so disables the feature requiring a camera restart."
Surely this can't be the case.
Anyone know for sure.

In that article the author states that he didn't use any Canon lenses. I've heard other quirks with the Sigma lens, like it only focuses wide open, so I'd guess that's the cause here too. I haven't heard of anyone else having that aperture issue.
It would be a good question for Canon why the C100 doesn't play nice with lenses that work fine on all the other Canon bodies.

If it came free and has Focus Auto Override I may (just may) be interested.....but I'm doing fine without it and not spending $500.

How about Canon offering $500 to fix the EVF ! ! and implementing either true progressive and even 50P / 60P !!

Hello, if somebody help me with information, I want to send C100 in service in Italy to make sensor update
I need to send anything besides C 100 empty? what accessories should send out the C100?
Thanks

According to Canon Service here in the USA they want the camera stripped down with no accessories, just the camera body. You should check what the specific requirements are for Europe by contacting Canon.

Just received my upgraded C100, Dual Pixel AF works flawlessly with all my L series lenses and my Tokina 11-16... Sigma 18-35 1.8, not so much. Only works when wide open at 1.8, anything else is a no go. I'm looking to pick up a 24-105 (either Canon or Sigma), has anyone confirmed if the Sigma works with Dual Pixel AF (anything higher than F4)?

Here are my thoughts on the upgrade so far:

Turn around time from Pacific Northwest to Westcoast was 7 business days.

I tested this on a Canon 16-35mm 2.8 ii, Tokina 11-16 ii 2.8, Sigma 18-35mm 1.8, and a Canon 70-200. Unfortunately the sigma 18-35 does not work at anything beyond 1.8.

The AF worked really well on all the lenses. The order of quickness and smoothness was:
1. Sigma 18-35mm
2. Canon 70-200
3. Canon 16-35mm
4. Tokina 11-16 (this was a bit slower than the rest)

AF soise is similar to the order above except with the Sigma being louder than the Canons and the Tokina being much louder than the rest.

The AF only looks somewhat natural and "focus pulled" on the 18-35mm, everything else snaps into focus very quickly and abruptly. This is both a pro and a con for me as I'm using the upgrade to check focus quickly at weddings.

The AF seemed to work quite well in moderately low light settings.

One problem I noticed is that if you have a large depth of field between a subject in the foreground/background, the AF takes a long time to adjust on the Canon lenses (when something is in front of the camera and switching between things in the background a few feet away). There was literally 2-3 seconds where the camera was not adjusting focus then the AF would kick in.

The focus lock feature is very nice and I believe will prove invaluable during event interviews and candid focus pulls.

It's a shame the Sigma doesn't work at anything higher than 1.8 because that lens easily has the fastest and most natural looking AF. Hopefully Sigma releases an update to the lenses' firmware to resolve this.

I dropped off my C100 in Irvine, CA and got it back less than 48 hours later via FedEx! The upgrade is just awesome! It's very smooth with the Sigma 18-35 but unfortunately WILL NOT AF if you stop down at all. I'll be using that glass wide open a lot though so it'll still probably be my main lens. The 24-105L does ok with AF but not as smooth as the Sigma. I think this upgrade will be a game changer for me shooting events.

Hallo akivisuals

please if you have time please do a test to see how we work, several frames in poorer light, people moving.some staff to hear and see how the lens works on C100 .. what makes noise.yet no one has posted a real review..If possible please do some tests, and I want to send to service C100 are not too happy with what I've seen so far.10 years shooting only in manual focus, even with ex1 ..
