General Canon - an oddity

Yes to everything..

“I have a c200 it shoots annoying but good raw”

“If that codec is not appropriate I suggest you rent a c500ii or c300iii - as a canon c series owner I’m fully conversant with operating them”

We have canon glass from 14 to 400 ef at my office available to hire

Owning rf glass won’t fit a rental c500 - worth noting

At the moment it’s feeling like c200 for cash or c300 on lease?

Why is the right-angle hdmi connector needed? ( I don’t use hdmi to know why )

I assume you are aware that there hdmi cables available that have a 90 on one or both ends, which at least eliminates an adapter.

I was just google ing the options

Without L it is positioned to penetrate your ear if put on the shoulder or hit the spar on a gimbal

I saw you considering a new C200 “ for cash”. Isn’t a used Fs7 around the same price, if not less?

Yeah that makes sense, plus it could "live" on the gimbal as B cam ready to go while c5002/c3003s are A cam. This is true of the c70 too though but would in theory be easier to match in post.

There's always a catch!

so, what's the reason you prefer a c70 over a c200? because you think the IQ is better and the camera benefits from newer tech (AF, etc?)

Is the c70 going to make you more money? I guess one notable benefit of the c70 is that you can use a 24-105 with a speedbooster and therefore get a better cheap zoom that will also be useful if you switch to a full-frame camera.

seems like the no-sdi is the sticking point of the c70. what about that hdmi-to-sdi adapter I linked you to? if you're using that, then at least you'll be fiddling with stuff on the camera side and not the director side if the adapter is malfunctioning. (but it got good reviews, so it's probably solid). and like you said, you don't often need sdi, so most of the time you should be quite happy with the c70 as it is

You've probably seen this but camera motion research make a mounting kit that gives the connex mini SDI, I think at the expense of being able to use the small lithium batteries - http://www.camotionllc.com/connex-mini/mini-1600.shtml.

Except Abe's link looks like a newer version of the converter.

Re AF, I'd be going with the newer tech. For me, the c200 AF is a bonus and great for some things but not quite the reliable workhorse function (not saying the c70 has achieved this either). Heavy backlighting and low light scenes are out of the question, which might be a fairly regular narrative/commercial type scenario?

re AF - it would seem that the mirrorless cameras like R5/A7Siii have even better AF than the cine cameras

wow I didn't realize that the 1dc was so much more expensive than the 1dx at launch. there's no way that the R5c will cost less than $6500.

too bad the r5 overheats. you could get an fx3 but you don't benefit from the possibility of an ND adapter. so then it's vari ND in front

I'd like to see cinematch side by sides to see how easily and closely you could get the latest sony cameras with the latest canon cameras.

The 1DC is the only DSLR that was classified as a CINEMA EOS camera.

They considered it a video machine, and it was actually highly sophisticated for what it was at the time based on what everyone else was doing. (BM just started widely shipping their first two cameras that year.)

according to tony northrup, some people speculated that the only difference between the 1dc and 1dx was firmware. although he said that some thought there was more going on under the hood. of course, we know where his loyalties lie. although he did say that the r5c might tempt him back to canon
