Canon A1 / LANC operation

I've heard mixed reviews over the years regarding Canon's ability to fully interface with remote LANC controllers.

I just ordered a Varizoom VZ-rock controller and I'm wondering if anyone has any idea (or can test) how the A1 reacts to LANC input.

As there are other controllers out there, all brand info is welcome. ZOE, Varizoom, Canon, etc.

I'd suspect that it acts the same as the H1 but I was unable to find info on that.

Okay, so nobody has posted but 60 people have looked at this so some must be interested...here's my input.

Just got my VZ-rock today, plugged it into my Canon A1 and...

super sweet, the rocker thumb toggle is very well balanced, with a good amount of resistance and tactile feel. It also provides enough variable speeds (lanc itself is restricted I believe at 8) to zoom slowly and smoothly ramp up to a fast zoom.

Lovin' it so far...

The tape search buttons don't do anything that I can find with this model.

The display change button does nothing, I've heard this works on an external monitor for the XL2, so possibly this same scenario.

Focus toggle is tiny, but nice. Once I got used to the size it works well. There is an initial aspect to pressing the toggle in the wrong place (too far on one end) and it doesn't trigger anything.

The auto focus button doesn't do anything as the A1 has a manual auto/manu focus switch. This can't be overriden by LANC so you get momentary manu while pressing the focus button. Otherwise, keep 'er in manu focus.

So really I got:
power on/standby
rec/pause
focus
zoom

These all work nicely as I said before so I'm happy. I currently have it mounted on my spiderbrace.

If you don't have a spiderbrace and you do any run'n'gun work, I suggest it. Marcos at Spiderbrace is an awesome guy and really helped me out.

i was curious about a lens control, its good to hear that the vz rock works... where did you purchase it from? and how much? i'm also getting the spiderbrace, so your review is helping out....
thnx
