I have been putting my 7d through extreme testing for the past 3 weeks. Today while I was setting up the 7d for a small project I accidentally came across a surprising video horror. I immediately stopped and took hours trying to figure out what really happened. look...

the camera was set at M mode. 1080@24, pro res down to Youtube compatible. 1/50 at 5.6, iso started at 64000 and down (look at the video). Switched through various lenses 50mm/f1.4, tokina f2.8/11-16, 100mm, and 18-55mm. no luck! Switched to P mode auto, problem solved! Back to M mode, same problem. Reset camera setting, same problem. Discharge the cmos, same problem. the camera was at room temperature and straight out of the camera bag. 2 hours later, the problem all gone.

My 2nd (b-roll) 7d camera was ok.

It looks just like what happens when you use fast shutter speeds under fluorescent lights... I'll assume you started out at 1/8000 or so and were progressively working your way down the shutter speeds? If so, that's what happens -- you canNOT use fast shutter speeds under fluorescents (or HMIs or any magnetic-ballast light source) when you're using a CMOS camera.

I took the fluorescent into account. the "2nd " camera was fine. very confusing.

you might be correct but 2nd camera was ok. And after couple of hours the problem gone on the 1st camera.

One odd thing I find re lighting flicker is that (PAL land) only 1/50 shutter removes flicker. 1/100 doesn't but it should, same with 1/150, 1/200 etc. A side effect of this is that you can't shoot 720p without getting flicker under certain lights, it's there at every shutter since you can't dial in 1/50 in 50p. Not that you'd want to shoot 720p :)

I had the same issue yesterday. I shot all day interviews...all under the same lighing conditions.

I killed all the house lights and only used Key, Fill, and back light no fluorecents just Tungsten and ranging from 250, 500 and 750 watts.

Out of the blue, one of the interview shots has HORRIBLE banding. All interviews were shot at ISO 200, F2.8, and 60...

Pretty upset to encounter this problem.....

I forgot to take the firmware into account. I updated to 1.1.0 . from 1.0.9. Would this had to do something with the banding? Did you updated from 1.0.9?
