Canon 7D SKATEBOARDING montage with special effects

Decided to get creative and add a visceral feel to the vibe of skateboarding, found no better way to accomplish this than with the flexibility of the 7D. Many tools were used for the production of this montage (green screen, slider, glidecam to name a few).....share with me your thoughts.

*note: I edited this between 2 different workstations, so I know some color fidelity might be skewed in certain scenes, but nonetheless I'm proud of this piece.

(problems embedding the video....so i have to post the link)

As a general rule, I hate Skateboarding videos...

But I sat through yours - which means it was at least 10 notches above anything I've seen before. I'm so glad the 7d is bring back art to the skateboarding video.

Just a couple things I noticed. There's a single quick dissolve at 1:29 - it's a little jarring and isn't done for effect - I think you can either go with a straight cut or just take it out completely.

Also at the end 2:34 - you have that gradient that just kinda sits there... it feels like it's doing nothing - I'd recommend making the gradient wider so it doesn't look like have your frame is cut off.

Unless you're using an on camera gradiated filter- then there's not much you can do with that.

Everything else was really well done.

Can you describe how you do smooth timeramping - I guess you are using 720p on the 7

do you use FCP?

I also guess some shots are the camera locked off and the rider does the same trick twice ?

nice

@Gospel_John, thanks for the tip....yeah looking back I definitely see alot of grading issues I wish I would have corrected, but for sake of time and primarily concerned with the flow of the edit I didn't have a chance to iron out the small glitches. I used magic bullet for all my grading, it gave me alot of latitude but I sometimes found it doing more harm than good when perserving the color space. Perhaps I need to use Color instead?

@morgan_moore, yeah I used final cut..and for the slo motion shots I used a plugin called "Twixtor" for After Effects. I shot in 60p with a higher frame rate and than overcranked the footage to 24p, then brought it in AE and adjusted speed via twixtor for ultra smooth slo motion.
