Just got a mke400 mic, so far in quick trial of it, sounds like a pretty significant hiss on videos. Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Was to return it to the store. don't mean to be glib, but I couldn't find any way around the hiss. It's really too bad that Canon couldn't put a decent audio input on the 7d. Phil Bloom has had good luck with the rode video mic, but It's just too big for the kind of kit I'm looking for. For now I'm recording dual audio and just putting up with the built-in mic for run n gun situations.

Totally Usable
Here's a clip from my 7D and MKE400 for comparison. The "noise" in the first shot is the ocean behind me. Beyond that, I don't really notice any "hiss."
